Re: Gryphon Essence Versus Pass Labs X350.8
Hey Jay, don't feel either is the right match. The Essence has the continuousness and flow of good instruments, but doesn't sound dynamic enough. The Pass is a bit warmer but slams the leading edge of guitars and other instruments in an unnatural way. Decay is lacking.
I went through a half a dozen amps on YG so know your pain right now. It's not easy. You really need 400 watts into 4 ohms to have a chance. Pair of Luxmans might be the value winner. For a warmer sound, JRDG sounded better than Pass in my system (and more powerful).Brinkmann Bardo w/ EMT HSD-006 cart, MSB Reference DAC --> Linear Tube Audio MicroZOTL --> Ampzilla 2000, 2nd Edition --> Fyne Audio F1-12
