I am all for this as I would love that extra hour of daylight at the end of the day during the winter months. I don’t care if it’s dark first thing in the morning.

Senate Passes Bill that would make Daylight Savings time permanent

I don’t mind either one, daylight saving time or standard time. People will make necessary adjustment.

Just don’t move the clock twice a year. It’s lunacy.

Since the stereo sounds better after the sun sets, the air cools down, and people are inside I would prefer Standard Time. However, whatever gets chosen I am in favor, since I am tired of changing clocks.

Re: Senate Passes Bill that would make Daylight Savings time permanent

I am all for it. It plays havoc at work because all countries do not change at the same time, also pretty stupid.

If you live in some parts of Indiana but work in certain parts of Ohio, you could leave your house an hour after you start working

I would be just as satisfied if they split the 30 minutes and left it there.

Re: Senate Passes Bill that would make Daylight Savings time permanent

I thought most of here are old enough to remember when the US did this for about 2 years in the mid-70's? It proved to be so unpopular that we reverted to our current system. In addition, there are a number of studies (both medical, i.e. physical health, and psychological) indicating that we are healthier and happier when the clocks are set to "sun time". Regardless, changing the time twice a year is worse than either of the other alternatives.

Metric system will be tougher as roughly one sixth of the population is over 65 and over 40% age 45 and older. So there's going to be tough sell and they'll probably have to do it gradually by having both units for a bit on things like food and other essentials.

Eliminating the need to change the clocks twice per year is great. However, I think they should have settled on standard time, not daylight saving time. Not getting light until almost 9 am in the winter in the mid-atlantic and northeast is not going to be fun.

Studies have also shown that our bodies align better with standard time.

Re: Senate Passes Bill that would make Daylight Savings time permanent

It would be stupid if they left it on Standard Time. Who wants the sun to come up before 5 in the morning in the summer and setting before 9pm?

As far as I concerned the country would be much more efficient if they eliminated Eastern and Pacific times. All east would go Central and Pacific to Mountain. We wouldn't have the big travel losses or gains . The stock markets wouldn't open at 6:30 am in LA or close at 1:30. Phone calls and meeting would be within and hour and would be easier in this global economy.

When I was working I had so many 7-1-7 meetings that they day never seemed to end. Seven at night in Shanghai, one pm in Germany and Seven in the morning in Detroit. I was in all three during a single week.

I just paid $130 to fill my truck with gas… 2x what I paid last year, and our elected officials are worrying about what time it is? What a bunch of sphincters.

You need to deal with the oil companies about gas prices. However, I guess the government could stop the oil companies subsidies. But that would price gas at its actual value.

A couple points… 1) my education was Petroleum Engineering. I’ve worked the west Texas oil patch and on platforms and drilling rigs in the Gulf of Mexico. I imagine my knowledge of the energy sector is greater than yours. But this isn’t the place to drill down on that.

    2) I have been enjoying (!) the mis-fortune of complying with an audit of my business by the state of Oregon. Compiling records including expenses related to my company owning a truck. So I am very intimately aware of the fuel prices in 2019 and what the average cost was to fill a tank that year ($68.28). Today I paid $130 for 25 gallons. What changed? Energy policy is what changed.

The weakest argument about gas prices is the old “blame the oil companies” line, I’ve heard it since the 1970s, usually by people who’s knowledge of the energy sector amounts to putting the nozzle into their car and raising the handle.

But, I nudged the topic off the rails, so I’ll not say more.

I'm just happy not to have change back and forth.
I grew up in imperial and have been in Metric for 47yrs now. ( We changed over in 75. That was in the Trudeau days. {Not this one his father}) I still have to convert metric back to imperial like 50degrees = 10metric 60=15 and 20 is not quite 72 and 72 is where you want to be.

I'm all for Daylight Savings. Being retired, if it's dark in the morning I don't really care. I usually don't leave the house until 9:00 AM anyway and we like a nice walk around dusk. The sky can be a real light show at that time.
