    The Prince treatise by Machiavelli

Machiavelli's The Prince is explained in this video. We take a deep dive and break down key concepts and themes from the highly influential work, written by Niccolò Machiavelli.

The Prince represents Machiavelli’s effort to provide a guide for political action based on the lessons of history and his own experience as a foreign secretary in Florence. His belief that politics has its own rules so shocked his readers that the adjectival form of his surname, Machiavellian, came to be used as a synonym for political maneuvers marked by cunning, duplicity, or bad faith.

The video is fundamentally about power: how to acquire it and then, how to keep it. It shows how many of the principals documented in The Prince are still relevant today and used in the fields of business, politics and beyond.

Each part of the video explains a key idea from Machiavelli’s original writing and expands on it. In particular, they focus on power dynamics, both social and political. They include historical anecdotes (from his text and elsewhere) and explanations on how the work still applies in a more modern context.

I would think the best background for such a video would be to read (or for many reread) The Prince. But that's just me. Much better to read the author than have someone interpret his writings for you. ymmv

Read it many years back. Not a large book to conquer per se. Thought the video was a nice enough presentation with the illustrations and narrative. If it intrigued anyone at all, the book would still be the way to uptake the material for sure.

I actually found some of the material useful in life as I moved on to management and business ownership positions.

The school of stoicism and the wisdom of the stoic philosophers has also greatly influenced and shaped my views on the world to date.
