State of Confusion
Somehow I ran across the site today for Oppo phones. We all know how great their Bluray players are so I was wondering if any one has a phone by them. I haven't looked into them yet but they seem pretty cool.

They do appear nice. One benefit of having a common OS (Android) is that it encourages innovation and competition. The drawback appears to be every manufacturer is modifying it, and this has the potential to have apps which work on one phone, but not on other Android phones.

I agree. It's what the industry needs.

Too late that came and went with the original iPhone launch. I've been in the industry since '88. My first phone was a Mitsubishi bag phone - 8 lbs, 2 hrs on stanby & 15 min. of talk time at $0.45 per min and $0.225 for an unsuccessful call attempt. To say things have changed in the last 25 years is a hugh understatement. From my perspective what the industry really needs is someone to break the bundling model. You don't buy your TV from CBS or your toaster from Orwheat, so why buy your phone from your carrier? Jobs had the opportunity and blew it. It's not likely there will be another breakthrough as big from a company with the distribution, retail, style, wherewithal and the overwhelming demand on tap to really change the game. Too bad.
