Now for my Christmas message of peace and tolerance:

I am the first to admit that when it comes to the phrase "Happy Holidays", I'm a real humbug. The last time I checked the National Holiday Calendar, the 25th in our country (Australia) is "Christmas Day". Like many other western countries, Australia was founded on Christian principals. Christamas Day is a day of celebration, acknowledgement and reflection of the birth of Jesus Christ. Something like that is written in Wikipedia. It is a day that represents giving and feasting. It is one of the most important days on the Christian calendar. Christianity was founded in the Middle East, yet in these trying times, western governments around the world have been subverting the true meaning of Christmas as to minimise offending non-Christian members of their respective multicultural communities. Why should the phrase "Merry Christmas" offend? When you have a Happy Holiday in a non Christian country, you are expected to respect the customs and traditions of the country you are visiting. You do not have to believe in the Christian liturgical calendar to acknowledge the fact that a large percentage of the world's population does. So I say just go with it and wish your fellow neighbour a Merry Christmas no matter their religious and/or political disposition.

You are correct in many respects. We are diverse however lacking identity. I will refrain from continuing this discussion because it will crossover into topics of politics and religion which are not compatible with this forum. I will say that we are a lessor young Australia and a growing dependent adolescent Australasia.

On the picture you see the largest Christmas tree in the world which is the Lopik televisions tower that is lit every year during the last three weeks of December. This was one of the rare occasions that we have snow this time of the year which obviously is not this year. Rain and wind so far... But we might see some snow on Friday and Saturday!
