When I was younger and my cousins would come over, they always brought great cigars. I'd feel a little guilty lighting up now but understand the allure.

Cohiba Maduro 5 like too much.... Genios, Magicos, Secretos.

    Robusto format is my favourite.

Smoked one Genios after burying my dog who died on Tuesday.

Apart from exceptional occasions like that, I only water the humidor nowadays & don't have the temptation anymore. They only get better if you look after the stash & it was 12 months since I had one previously.

Living well & being active is not compatible with smoking. I like to scuba dive & do stuff & getting older sucks, so I want to stay healthy.

"Guilty"; how do you mean Joe?

Look...I know it's a bit passé now; not trendy...like it wasn't, then was...now isn't again. But I find it to be a true luxury, within the reach of the every-man.

I was never a cigarette smoker; but just look at the way they are consumed. With a coffee, on the telephone; 20 a day. It's a totally "throw-away" experience. One of the things I like about a cigar...is it demands your attention. For me...it's an hour, where I can focus on just relaxing; no other thoughts, invade my mind.

Of course...it's not for everyone; you either have a taste for it, or not. And too often, people smoke real sh*t; dog-rockets! But I find audiophiles, tend to drift toward the "finer" things in life. It's amazing, how many 'philes are also into cars, photography, wine/spirits, etc. Just wanted to see, if there were any fellow lovers of the leaf here.

Guilty as in one should not have too many vices.

Maybe if I was in better shape I'd indulge more.

Would love to, but hockey three to four times a week and cigar smoking don't mix. Would no doubt give a whole new meaning to "coughing up a lung".

Re: I Know We Have SOME Cigar-Smokers In The Tank?

I should clarify that I very much enjoy the occasional cigar: sometimes at a lounge with a friend, sometimes on the back patio with the ball game on the radio (or even just the birds in the trees), or very occasionally up in the listening room with a most excellent LP, and always accompanied by an appropriate beverage.

I don't think living a healthy lifestyle necessarily precludes an occasional indulgence, and a fine cigar is pretty high on my list of enjoyable pleasures and for which I think there is little, if any, dire consequence - it's all about moderation. I may go months without giving my humidor a second thought, and other times I may visit it two or three times a week. (I have similar relationships with the liquor cabinet and wine cellar.)

It's considered appropriate to not directly inhale cigar smoke as you commonly would cigarette smoke, so a proper cigar experience should never leave you coughing up a lung. I have a couple of friends who are pretty serious cigar consumers during the summer months, as they choose to smoke only outside. Once the weather turns cold, they don't light up again until spring and they suffer no undue withdrawals. Again, it's all about moderation. And I'm certainly not trying to paint the picture that cigars are the pinnacle of nutrition, but I don't think they're quite as bad as they're stereotypically made out to be, "dog-rockets" notwithstanding.

I should also add that I'm in my mid-late 30s and have never smoked cigarettes, though my parents were moderate smokers when I was a kid. And I only came to enjoy cigars several years ago, mostly after developing tastes for brandy and Scotch (not so much on Port) and reading much rhetoric about those classic cigar pairings - I actually read three books about cigars before I ever even tried one!

Don, I want to thank you for your post. You expressed a lot of the things I was thinking...but did not want to say; because, I agree with you. It's not as if we're promoting cigar smoking; and it certainly has it's health concerns, as Chris eluded to (sorry about your Pop Pop Chris).

But, I did seem confused...that some referenced the lungs; and just wasn't sure, if they realized...you don't inhale cigar smoke. Now yes...because you hold it in the mouth, until you exhale; it probably has an increased risk of cheek, gum, tongue cancers...even over cigarette smoking. But I've never found it to effect my respiratory capacity, etc; I've even smoked, while taking a brisk walk

I think Don did a nice job, of capturing the allure; at least for me.

Re: I Know We Have SOME Cigar-Smokers In The Tank?

cigar smoking seems to be a personal thing these days. most people do it in their own yard or driving in the car by themselves. the way people look at you now when you smoke anything in public is uncomfortable to say the least. i smoked cig for 25 years and a pack a day for at least 10 of those years. i quit 2 years ago and havent had one since. i used to smoke quality cigars occasionally as my good friend owns a cigar shop. but now i am scared because of the whole taste and heavy nicotine that it would get me back smoking again.
i found a happy medium. i vape. delicious flavors today is pear. last week was pomegranite. next week probably coconut lol. i used the full cigarette amount of nicotine and dropped down each week to the least amount of nicotine available and it has kept me from even wanting a cig for a couple years. ive broke it or forgot it at home several times and its not enough to keep me addicted and i dont mind not having it. but the flavor is what keeps me from giving it up. i just love the taste.
i love the smell of cigars and even cigs, n love when someone next to me is smoking. but i wont touch them anymore. vape is mostly vegetable glycol, pharmaceutical grade nicotine(any amt you want) and flavoring. no ashes no smoke just steam. and is not a tobacco product and cant be taxed out the ying yang.
i lost my way in making my point... oh yea, cigar smoking occasionally was very satisfying to me and used to really enjoy a good cohiba and yes its better with a good drink.

Cigars are a big part of my personal reward system.
I even built a Cigar Parlor on to my house, and if any Cigar smokers have wondered, my Projector has held up for years under heavy Cigar smoke from my NFL watching Cigar smoking friends.
I would not have been surprised if it died in a month, just rolled the $ dice.
Now I hope for pictudegradationonn for a reason to upgrade.

Yes to the occasional cigar right now as I sit outside with the sun going down I find a OpusX the best at keeping the mosquitos at bay. Would I ever light up a 1,000 cigar well their would have to be a lot of Mosquitos. A box a cigars last me a long long time.

Re: I Know We Have SOME Cigar-Smokers In The Tank?

I smoked cigarettes for 12 years in the 2 pack a day range. There were nights out where I would go through a whole pack in a few hours at a bar. Anyway, in those days I tried cigars more than once. Even then I hated the taste and hated the smell. I have never understood the appeal, but to each their own.

    Old thread ...

I re-stocked the humidor this weekend and am enjoying an E.P.Carrillo New Wave Connecticut toro with some Jazz (David Hazeltine: For All We Know, Smoke Sessions Records) on the main system. Haven't decided on what to put in my glass, yet.

I actually have Diamond Crown #4's boxes on sale for $130 as a special!
    Regular $14 per cigar.

Let be know if anyone is interested. I am a direct licensed dealer, so there is no overlap warehouse cigar sitting in the summer heat.

Count me in. I too find it a way to 'take an hour' and focus on relaxing. Generally outdoors, unless I am in a dedicated lounge, often with a beverage of some sort. While I think about lighting up in my 2 channel room often, I have never done so. Likely never will.

That looks like an angle cut from the picture. Doesn’t that give you trouble with the wrap coming apart? I try to trim the least amount possible. Of course it all comes down to preference ultimately. Enjoy it!

My personal favorite is the Juan Lopez selectos #2

This is the humidor at the Hotel De National in Havana. Thousands of boxes, and I tried everything I could during the week I was there.
