    What did you expect?

Why manufacturers continue to entertain working with this guy is beyond me.

He trashed NAIM and now he’s trashing McIntosh. This is a guy who dabbles in budget receivers, TV’s and trashing vinyl. Mind boggling.

So is a member on this forum:

"Naim seems to be having an issue worldwide. Their decision to send a $27K kit to a very popular low-end reviewer here in the US was a spectacular failure and shows how out of touch they have become. Plus there is a lot of talk about their many, many ongoing QC issues.

Seems they have lost their way."

Interesting, seems a lot of the folks commenting seemed to agree with his assessment. Regardless, 'Mac' has for sure (like other 'high end' mfgs) made some ridiculously priced gear, PS2K sub woofer for example.

Speaking of 'over priced' receivers, remember this little tidbit from 10 years ago .........

    Re: What did you expect?

I think that may have been the first review I've seen by him so I don't know if he talks like that all the time. I personally didn't think he trashed the Mac, it has some legit oversights if you are a HT person.

No OSD, are you serious, that is basic of basics. I didn't think lack of video upscaling was an issue because displays upsample anyway. Not sure on projectors. I thought it was a good thing he warned any potential buyer of the sound. For HT I personally would prefer a more neutral sound anyway but he did indicate some sound effects were some muted by comparison. It's all perspective, I've heard some systems where breaking glass would run you out of the room. I thought the comment on the weight was unnecessary. On the other hand he was right on cosmetics and what folks expect for a Mac.

I realize HT is something Mac wants to offer and has before but it isn't their forte. Some years back a store had a Mac HT set up, a HT pre with their amp, and another set up with Anthem separates, I think both were using Paradigm. The Anthem sounded so much better for less money.

Trying to be objective when comparing that Mac to even a more entry HT receiver it falls very short. Look at the number of HDMI in/out, all but the most entry provide at least 2 HDMI outs.

There could be some reason Mac made some of their decisions on this piece but objectively I thought the review was valid. Mac should have brought in some HT experts to help consult on this piece. Typically, high end brands who do HT, ie. Arcam or Rotel, back in the day, left off bells & whistles but they had the sound quality and enough proper HT adjustments they did well, you know what I mean, you knew what you were paying for.

Not really. Wilson is a speaker manufacturer not an electronics manufacturer.

Andrew is clueless about a lot of products he attempts to review. I followed him for a couple months a few years back, and that's all it took for me to dump his channel.

He's usually out in left field with a lot of stuff he says, he half-ass reviews products, totally looking over key features or specs. He wouldn't know quality if it hit him in the face. Hell, he swears up and down about how "excellent" some cheap digital pro audio amplifier he uses, claiming it's just as good as any hi-end amplifier he's put it up against.

I mean, that right there tells you all you need to know about that clown.

I like the one where he says there is no such thing as burn in.

    Re: What did you expect?

Seems like these reviewers had a much more positive opinion on the Mac vs. Andrew:

I have a MX100 and am happy with the performance however the build quality is definitely not the same as my other Mcintosh components but it does what I need it to .
