    Vangelis has passed away

    Evángelos Odysséas Papathanassíou, also known as Vangelis has passed away at age 79. I have a box set of CDs he released. Excellent composer and musician.

    Being a Classic Rock fan I first became aware of him through the group Aphrodites Child, album 666 later his album with Jon Anderson of Yes, Friends of Mr. Cairo. That and his solo and soundtrack material will leave a nice legacy.

    If not familiar with Aphrodites Child 666 it's a concept album based on the book of the Bible Revelations. You sort of have to begin and let it flow, it's not something you will get by sampling it. However, the track Four Horsemen did get some airplay on finer AOR stations. It would be interesting to know how this album was accepted or how well known in other countries.

    Like many others the first time I heard Vangelis was on the epic "Chariots of Fire" soundtrack. RIP

    Surely one of the most recognizable film pieces of all time.
