If I remember correctly, Jay-Z originally invested around $50M on Tidal. Pretty darn good return on his original investment.

Interesting that he bought back the shares that he sold to Sprint and then re-sold them to Square.

Tidal has been a money loser from the get go and was costing him millions of dollars to run every year. In 2019 alone, Tidal lost $52 million.

Re: Square acquires majority of Tidal, Jay-Z’s streaming service, in $297 million deal

Tidal has some issues to work out. I haven't switched yet due to Tidal having some more obscure titles I like. The main issue is thesearch function. To be fair I need to do more comparing the search from Aurender Conductor versus the Tidal app to seewhere the issue is.

I can search for Heart, maybe 50 albums will show with most being exercise stuff, I have to search by title to find the album I want.

I can search a band name, have the correct bio showing and a totally different band with same name. I'm surprised how frequent this is.

I like to check each week under genres to see what new release there are and sample some new music. I hav to say the emphasis on Hip Hop or Urban styles is not exaggerated. World Music hasn't yielded anything good for a long time as the albums lean toward the genres mentioned. Same with Jazz.

It will be interesting to see what if any changes this brings.

I love Tidal. I access it via Roon, so no problems with their app.
