I wouldn't be surprised if this is not a trend that we continue to see especially as physical media continues to become less prevalent.

Yep falling in line with Tidal and Qobuz as they all want to get it ($$) while they can. Now of course quality over quantity has to be key somewhere. I guess we shall see.

I bet Spotify will add an extra dollar or so to their rates once they start streaming CD quality music.

I think this is a great development. The prices of streaming services are too low currently.

Spotify is raising prices for lots of its plans

The original article is old news and has been superseded by announcements from Apple Music and Amazon in the past several weeks. Both of them have announced CD quality streaming at no extra cost (Apple) or lower pricing (Amazon). That makes me doubt that Spotify will be increasing prices if they want to remain competitive.

How can higher prices be a great development? Prices should come down as more people come into the streaming market.

Not in the times we live in ... Amazon, Tesla, Apple, Housing Market, High-end Audio, LP albums, music cables, 4K Blu-rays, speakers, amplifiers, DACs, oil, climate change, timber, yachts, mansions, luxury cars and watches, Netflix, whiskey, ... everything must go ... up.

I have paid $11.99 a month for the last 18 months for Tidal’s Master HiRes plan. A good deal if you are a US Veteran.
