    Norman Laboratory #9

Hello to all. Not sure if I'm in the right place please point me in the right direction if not. I have a pair of vintage Norman Laboratory #9 home towers that are in almost excellent condition. The foam surrounds on all 6 of the 10" drivers are no more. That's the almost in my equation. My question is can anyone tell me where ,,, or suggest rather, a company where I can buy the foam kits I need. Any info at all would be so so appreciated thanks in advance.

Wow, blast from the past -- Norman Labs. For guidance on refoaming any speaker, just google it. There are a couple of popular suppliers and some DIY youtube vids.

I grew up in Norman (OK) and went to high school with the son of the founder. I bought my first 'high-end' stereo (Marantz receiver and speakers, Dual turntable -- $800, which I earned mostly as a car hop at an A&W Rootbeer drive-in) at the audio shop across the street from OU that he founded then sold to go off and create the Norman Labs company. As a senior in high school, I tutored his middle-school daughter during school-time as part of an Honors Society program, but offered to provide evening or weekend tutoring in exchange for a pair of her daddy's then new-to-market speakers (which she declined).

Where's 'the arm pit of America' that you reference?

Pine Bluff Arkansas. That's pretty cool that you know what I'm talking about. Google is my middle name and was the first place I looked. I've found very little info as far as where to buy the exact surrounds that I need which is what led me here. It is my understanding that it is very critical that you use the exact one when doing this. Maybe I just need to dig a little deeper into Google. I don't know if your familiar with the #9's but the craftsman ship is unreal. 3 10" drivers in each cabinet, 2 in the front and one in the back. Then there's the three tweets stacked but my most favorite thing about them is the 1157 light bulb that's soldered to the crossover board. The man was truly ingenious. I picked them up at the local auction for 15 bucks. I sat on them for 4 hours that night waiting for him to get to them. I have a addiction to speakers. But I love my music and I like it with good Sq and I like it loud. Hey thanks for taking the time to reply bro I really appreciate it.

Try talking to Sean at Simply Speakers in St. Petersburg, Fla., at 1-727-224-4385. They are one of the best in the re-foaming business, and re-foamed all my client's pro audio drivers that see massive abuse.......and always hold up well. Sean is well versed in hard to find driver parts.

I agree with Jerry about Simply Speakers. Might be a help to Sean if you have one of the woofers removed and in hand when you call him so that he can identify it. More than likely that a small company like Norman used off the shelf drivers from one of the major players like Seas, Vifa, etc.
