Michael Fremer tour of his system

His system is bonkers. He goes on about expensive equipment racks and power cords, the more expensive the better.

He strikes me as a real placebophile. Who is this guy??

Great video and great gear. Prashell, I use to believe cables were all snake oil but I have heard significant differences among cables as have most of the guys on this forum. Sometimes the difference is minimal but other times it is dramatic. Fremmer is right, everything is system dependent and you may or may not hear a difference for better or worse. I guess we are all placebophiles.

Michael Fremer tour of his system

    Placebo...placebophile, hmm.

This hobby is like any other hobby, something that allows you to break from the monotony of your time spent living. In this case the benefit is both the equipment itself and the music, and without the music, there is no hobby.

What it takes to get there assuming no one gets hurt is to each his own, doesn’t matter if it’s a $100 or $1,000,000 system.

The way I see Fremer is he is one of the ones that turns his hobby into his career, and I would put this in the less than 1% category - good for him!

His system is amazing and the placement was interesting. The speakers appeared to be 9'-10' apart and his chair looked to be about 7'-8' back from the front plane of the speakers.
I'm sure it works well for him though, it was much closer to near-field listening than I would have thought.

I realize it is just his work space but could you pick up a few things so the guys aren't struggling to get the speakers into the room.

Possibly they don't have storage space rental where Mike lives. That garage was a serious wreck. Oh well, to each his own.

Clutter makes me crazy, could you tell.

Lots of reflection due to proximity best to get in the near-field ..

Even though he considers it a "work space" and not a gathering space there is no way I could work in that cluttered mess.

Looks interesting, great equipment... but I could not live in that environment. But, as you say, to each his own.

BTW- just because it is a "work space" is no excuse at all. I have a very busy area at my work, servers, wiring closet, work benches, etc., but I keep it clean and orderly. Much easier to get actual work done when you are not struggling against clutter.... as you say, that is just my preference.

Interesting no one had mentioned anything about his space for 3pgs

I started to write a bunch of thoughts regarding that, which had absolutely nothing to do with audio, but backed up and fig its not worth stating the obvious. Wow.

Maybe there are details we are not privy to and figured it's not worth putting a negative spin on it.

Odd personality for sure, but one would have to have an odd personality to even think about making a living out of being an analog evangelist.

So, I just sort of live with his delivery and enjoy the observations (wouldn’t hire him to be my lawyer for sure, but that’s a different matter).

Very knowledgeable, sometimes funny and very good reviewer. Like others commented, while he considers his room as an “office”, it is too messy for me.
