Yes. Atkinson got his knickers in a knot at Peter B on Facebook for leaking it. Figured it would be best to remove.

TAS just gets older and older…it’s amazing how cars and watch hobbies are the opposite.

I get both magazines so it doesn't matter which of the two he writes for. In any case I pass on his articles on vinyl gear and only read the ones relating to amps and pre-amps that catch my interest. Good luck to him

I also get both magazines. Generally, I read everything, even the ads. Just because a subject is in either magazine doesn't mean I am going to buy it. Or even contemplate buying it.

    Agreed.

Since Atkinson has retired, Stereophile seems to be drifting a bit, IMO.

When I created the special forum for the magazines to post LINKS to their reviews and perhaps even interact with subscribers (a great suggestion from Jeff at SoundStage), everyone was pleased and thanked me for doing so….except Stereophile….their response was, shall we say, not enthusiastic.

Old habits and old ways die hard I guess.

Its all about the leadership. Change is good, but old habits and resistance cause deterioration in a product.

Tracking Angle | How Best to Hear Patricia Barber's "Clique!"

What is this all about? Has Fremer lost his marbles? It is one thing to say he prefers the MQA version over all others (even the 16/44.1 MQA file? It is not clear to me), but quite another to parrot old misinformation about the technical aspects of MQA (although to be fair Robert Harley recently did the same).

Archimago did some technical analysis of the Patricia Barber album in question, with interesting results
Archimago's Musings: MUSINGS: On Michael Fremer's "How Best to Hear Patricia Barber's 'Clique!'" - selective hearing and more MQA nonsense.

I must be in the minority on MF. I was a fan many years ago but the more I read him, the more I soured.

While I think he's helped build energy around vinyl which is a good thing (even though I don't play in that space), I've felt for 20 years he's been a shill for much of the gear he reviews.

I wouldn't say that this opinion is a minority one, or at least not a small minority...

Well, he is also a reviewer, and I suspect whatever income there might be from this isn't even enough to pay for his Web site.

I agree. I am not a fan of MF.

His articles are quite well written, but where he really looked bad was in some of the comments and replies. If there was an article that "disrespected" vinyl in a different magazine or website, I would see MF reply in the comments section, with those replies often derogatory, immature and offensive. I even emailed JA about it once and he basically said that "MF is like that sometimes" and "I'll talk to him."

    Again, not a fan.
