LG Smart TV's as audio streamers.....

In both my Living Room and Bedroom, i'm using my LG smart tv's, WebOS.... I'm using the optical out to my DACs for audio streaming. I'm currently using the Tidal and Spotify Apps...

Is anyone else doing this? would there be an advantage with buying a separate steamer?

    Thanks in advance.

I've never compared TV vs streamer but my guess is a dedicated streamer would be better. You could buy something like a Bluesound Node from a retailer who allows returns and do a comparison, if the Node isn't better, worth the expense, send it back.

With that being said, if you are only using the basic Tidal, and, Spotify is not yet CD quality, the TV is probably fine. Plus having the info on screen would be nice.

Other than the quality of your streaming, the quality of your DAC is another consideration. I would think though even basic DAC's should reveal the difference between 320 kbps and CD quality at 1411 kbps.

I've had my eye on the Bluesound Node, but $550 is too high and I don't even need the internal DAC, I may buy an Andover songbird to test, there is certainly a place in the market for a good streamer between the el chapo models and the $500 dollar high end streamers.
