    Jay,

Thanks for your videos. I’m learning a lot by listening and seeing your - and other people’s - opinions. Educational. More interactive than just reading a review in Stereophile by just one person.

Though there are some serious limitations using YT, I’m looking forward to many more videos. Thanks for your dedication to our hobby.

I will just say this... written reviews allow the writer an opportunity to edit, for brevity, clarity, content, and structure. I have viewed only a couple of these videos by Jay, and, in my opinion, they are difficult to consume because they lack the above characteristics. Brief, poignant, and descriptive are not adjectives I would use in describing Jay’s videos. That said, he does comparisons and this is welcome. But if the goal is to replace a written review, there is much to be improved upon. Stream of thought is first pass on a well done professional presentation, not the final product.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm actually trying hard to stay as far away as possible from replicating what others do. I want to be more raw, more like the "behind the scenes" without editing a thing. I want to simply let the words flow and share things.
When i started this journey, i always wanted to be sure i remained true to myself and always be me.
I really do appreciate the feedback though.

I never thought Jay is trying to replace any magazine reviews. His channel to me is more like a hobbyist sharing his journey. He has the means and resources to go overboard and I like that aspect of it. Let’s face it, a significant part of this hobby is about extravagant gears. His channel could be a data point for a gear you’re researching or audiophile related entertainment or sometimes simply where you can look at pretty and ugly boxes.

It is HARD to please everybody. Most of the negative comments are from people who really dont have exposure to any of this level of gear or let alone own it. I hope this did not offend anyone (not my intention), but i gotta be raw and truthful.
Anyhow, the DCS versus msb shootout is soon to come PLUS a new member of the family might be coming next week if i can close out the deal within the next 24 hours.

Again a really unqualified and arrogant statement. Are you really too simplistic to read people’s signatures where it states what kind of equipment they have?

The simple point is that you are quite full of yourself, and not everyone likes it. Deal with it.

Wow. How can it be spamming? This thread was STARTED referring to a visit to Jay’s room to hear the M6’s, the exact same M6’s that Jay is auditioning for anyone who wants to click on the links he “spammed”. My goodness. Why all the venom towards this forum member. It’s ridiculous and not what this hobby is all about.

Uh, I believe the video that Mike introduced this thread with was Jay’s video of Jay’s M6s on Jay’s YouTube channel, so it’s essentially his thread to begin with...

Just letting the words flow is, in my opinion, lazy. If you think your thoughts are worth sharing, then they are worth at least creating a script or outline so that you don't ramble, repeat yourself, or worse contradict yourself. It is disrespectful to your viewers to waste their time as you compose your thoughts.

On that note, I'll refrain from further comments about your videos.

In my opinion, the problem is the name of this thread. Either change the name of the thread to “Jay’s Audio Journey” or have Jay start his own thread. That way, folks who are specifically interested in the M6’s and aren’t interested in following his journey can do exactly that.

Thanks for the constructive criticism above. The ones that love to attack me are the ones that hide behind a computer and are eating Doritos with beer and pretend their system is something extraordinary which i never claimed mine was. It is actually far from it.
I know some love to be the sour apples and I'm starting to figure out who they are. That said, I'm not here to seek validation. It's simple: if you hate the programing, just change the channel. Nobody is forcing anyone to watch what they don't want. But the reality is that those who are bitter are also giving me views so I'll thank then for that.
If i repeat myself or sound like i am confusing then guess what? Change the channel. Why watch it ? It is more imbecile to keep watching what you hate when nobody has a gun to your head.

See you all at axpona this year. I'm willing to meet the haters too if they can get off their chair and walk.

Whoa, dude, go easy. This is a friendly place. No imbeciles here. Maybe elsewhere.

Constructive criticism to be sure. I don't watch for the reasons explained already, but support your overall intent. You just need to polish it up a bit. You'd get more views. If you can say it in 5 minutes (3 minutes?) why take 15?

Your rambling style invites the lazy viewers sitting behind their computers, eager to troll you out. Everyone else is busy and won't stick around to hear what you have to say, even if what your showing/comparing/reviewing is interesting.

Be a pro. And that includes not whining about crap comments from the 'haters'. Haters gonna hate.

You clearly didn't read what i said and yet here you are correcting me. Funny. If you read correctly, you'd see i didn't call anyone an imbecile. Learn how to read and I'll learn how to talk.
Anyhow, i got better things to do than to go back and forth. Wasted time and energy.
I'm not sure how Mike puts up with the criticism with regards to his videos and the music selection. Free content and people complain. Incredible for sure.

This is exactly the problem, Jay. You appear incapable of taking in feedback without lashing out.

Hiding behind computers, eating Doritos… kinda misses the point, doesn’t it? And how would you possibly know? Nobody is hiding anywhere, you see, this happens to be an online forum. And maybe you’re enjoying the Doritos a bit too much yourself (video with Mike). Why would everyone making constructive suggestions be somehow flawed?

People gave you feedback: what about trying to make it a bit more interactive, why not prepare a bit so the outflow is at least a bit more concise, why not summarize insights. Instead of getting angry, why not trying to learn and improve? This is not media space you’re buying, this is a special interest community.

And you had to stop posting on Agon because people were complaining, now you are here and the same thing happens again. Do you see a pattern?

I’m finding all of this very interesting. Is this criticism that Jay doesn’t come out in 60 seconds and say, “hey guys, I compared the Gryphon to the Pass and the Gryphon won. Have a nice day”? Or is everyone just disagreeing with his findings?

The guy is playing with some big boy toys and having fun!! I’m not sure if it’s jealousy or legitimate disagreement. I find it all very entertaining and refreshing myself to be honest. Does anyone really want to read another of JV’s “best” reviews or glorified advertorials like some?

I find it interesting and encouraging to see young people taking a real interest in the hobby. Young guys like Jay (and there are many others on YouTube now) are a refreshing welcome. Weren’t we all just bitching 5 years ago about “free gear” for this reviewer or that reviewer? How many threads bemoaning reviewers have been posted in the last 10 years?

Steve whatever his name is has 8 million followers or something and he prattles on about shitty $400 speakers in a cramped cluttered New York apartment for 20 minutes and no one says a word. That guy really needs to get out more. His “best” is the stuff we would give away at the store.

Here we have a young guy who buys his own stuff with his own money and then gives an opinion. How refreshing!! Now, of course, he’s not polished like my friend Matej or Herb or many others, but it’s ok. I find it all very interesting and refreshing. Do I agree with everything he says? Hell no, but I’m used to this on a daily basis. Do you know how many calls a week I get from cable deniers? How refreshing to see someone buy expensive cables, compare them to stock and gives his feedback. Much preferred than people who say “Look at this graph! Look! They don’t measure any different”, but they never LISTEN and they rarely buy to try in their own systems. They just follow the meter readers to a level of mediocrity. When Jay came to the store, I made him listen to the difference software makes - and he heard it and expressed it well. I also made him listen to vinyl and he heard the differences too. It’s a journey folks...

And for the record, I’m clearly the one who looks like he’s been eating too many Doritos! Jay's Audio Journey

    re: Jay's Audio Journey

There will always be those who must be the antagonists in life. Their life is simply to hate, destroy, hurt, discredit, ruin, sue, etc, etc. Their entire purpose in life is to wake up each day and find a way to make someone else's life a nightmare one way or the other. It reminds me of my time in the U.S. ARMY where the Drill Sergeants yelled at you constantly, always found something wrong with your boots, your uniform, your bunk, the way you marched, the way you walked, or the way you did a push-up. That said, that is their job and what they got paid to do (break you down so they can build you back up one step at a time). Yea, some might say i am "thin-skinned", but in reality it is really that i was bred to not take unnecessary B.S. when it is not warranted.
I put my face out there, share my journey and buy everything with my own money. I don't have sponsors, or patrons or a single contribution from anyone (i dont expect anything). Yet, the folks that are abrasive as hell are the ones that won't dare to show their face on camera or let alone talk about their systems for the whole world to see.
I am no journalist or broadcaster. If you expect me to report my findings in the same fashion as the 6 o'clock news, it won't happen. I got a job, a kid, a family and i will say it again: i dont get paid A DAMN THING TO DO THIS. I am doing this because i feel like sharing my journey with those that want to hear about it. If my entire life depended on Youtube and my journey and if i needed it in order to pay my bills then you bet i would be taking notes and trying harder to edit, shoot, be more structured.
If tomorrow i decided to end my journey, i can still carry on with it behind closed doors and continue to do my 9-5 to provide for my family.
Priorities are in order in my head and becoming a newscaster ain't one of them.
If you hate what i do, then simply unsubscribe, tune out, change the channel, block me, delete me, click the x at the top right and move on to another thread. It won't hurt my feelings - TRUST ME. Just let me do my thing and we won't ever have to cross paths or have issues.

    I enjoy watching Jay's videos.

That aside, I think the vitriol is specific to this hobby. Specifically, "high-end" audio.

If Jay was reviewing 6 figure exotic cars and had a garage full of them on his YouTube channel.

No (or very little)car enthusiasts would attack him based on his 7 figure car collection.

The problem lies and has always been (IMHO) the perceived "value" of audio components.

Amplified by skeptics and critics in audio.

I think we are eating ourselves alive. Or, perhaps into irrelevancy.

Have been following this thread for a while. I don’t understand the antagonism/what the issue is. Jay is doing his thing. I am a big fan of Kuoppis and he must have his reasons supporting his criticism. But I for one love Jay’s passion. I have only seen a few of his videos as I generally prefer text. Fine. If you don’t like it, move on. I support anyone who is passionate about music to go to the trouble and effort to make videos. End.

    Re: Jay's Audio Journey

Did not pay much attention to this thread but after seeing all the sniping I looked into some of Jay's (& Mike's) videos. I liked the content and delivery better than cookie cutter revues in Stereophile.

Even tho I have realized that the better the speaker and gear, the more lifelike vocals sound, my main gripe still stands. Just about any system sounds decent with a single instrument, or that and vocals. Not every system sounds great when you throw some challenging multi instrument and multi layered music at them. Dire Straights is always recorded well but please play something like One World where there is something to keep one awake and maybe even challenge this mega price gear.

    Welcome Aboard Jay!

    Hi Jay,

I get the feeling that your Magico M6’s will be headed out soon. It will be interesting to see what direction you go next with your speakers. You should listen to Jim and Mike on the neighboring thread and check out the Vivid G1 Spirit’s with external crossovers. The Vivid’s have soul.

I look forward to watching your video tomorrow.
