I think Mike did great for this unexpected interview , also when we know that he had a really long day behind him. Seems to me from this that it can pay to actually have better loudspeakers and maybe save a bit on amplifiers when one has to choose where to put most of the money. !

Amplifiers is how I made my name and i will say that Gryphon has been one of the most jaw dropping Amplifiers I've ever owned. Gryphon Amplifiers to me will always be part of my journey.

Can definitely do it this way and obtain great sound as depicted in the video. However, Jay previously had less expensive speakers and more expensive electronics, and I think it may have sounded even better. However, my basis is yt videos vs the real experience from Jay - would be great to get his opinion on this - perhaps in another video :-)

thezaks ( Dave )i agree with you , and thats actually a hard thing when one looks to do an upgrade should one choose speakers first and then later on amplification or the other way around i think there is probably no easy answer to that question , hence my ! as i would not be sure which to do first.

I would upgrade both speaker and amp the same time. Amp is dependent on speaker efficiency. Follows with sources dependent on amp input impedance.

knghifi , yes that would of course be the best , but i at least do not have that amount of money to do both at the same time. And for now i am just starting to slowly think and learn more. My next big step up will be upgrading my Lumin T1 to an X1 , if all goes well i will orde it at the end of April.

    re: Jay's Audio Journey

    FDPDK,
I hear ya, unfortunately most have a limited budget for toys.

Most times, there's a logical upgrade order. Many many moons ago I had Eggleston Andra II and Krell FPB600. Got exposed to Graaf OTL, EAR, Avantgarde .... so wanted Avantgarde with tube amp. Can't afford both so logical upgrade order was buy Avantgarde speakers and drive them with Krell until I can afford a tube amp. After ~2 years later, I replaced Krell with tube amp. Actually the Krell combination was very good.

The reverse order not going to work. Very few tube amps can drive Andra's properly so basically no system until I could afford the Avantgarde.

If you want to get serious, add the Boulder 2160 or Soulution 711 stereo amp. The Magico M6’s deserve nothing less in my opinion.

Thats like me telling you if you want to get serious then begin to buy m6 because your select 2 dac deserves nothing less...
You might want to take a look at all my videos... I've been through many components... Im only having fun now and enjoying the journey. Not in a rush to go buy the ultra high end components I've already been through. I'm in a exploratory phase right now simply taking my time and enjoying the "bus ride" without thinking about the destination.

    re: Jay's Audio Journey

I believe Jay posted in a previous video. Is it "better" to have "tier 1"speakers and mid-fi electronics?

Or tier 1 electronics and mid-fi speakers?

I think part of his journey is taking us through electronics (amps) until he reaches his pinnacle.

The videos will illustrate as others have mentioned here that the M6 is so brutally revealing of every upstream change. For better or worse.

IMHO (and others here too probably) No matter if you have Soulution electronics.

A lower end speaker will never be able to give you the output that those electronics and respective front end changes.

Of course, the fun is finding system synergy to meet your taste and budget.

I'm not familiar with his YT channel. I just watched his M3 video. Quite a few haters posting comments there. Don't know how the punters can offer a meaningful opinion on a speaker based on what they hear on a YouTube video. I did note the M3's were on wheels and not pods. No way can you make a valid assessment of that speaker not on its Mpods or Mfeet.

    re: Jay's Audio Journey

Yes, guessing is part of the game for me. I think what some don't realize is that i have been through so much ultra high end components already. The proof is in the pudding by simply watching my videos. Where is it written that one must not use this or that component with the m6?
Yes i can bring soulution 701 and 725 tomorrow and be done but what's the rush? Why can't the journey be enjoyed? I purposely bought cheaper electronics for the m6. This was my plan and i was very vocal about it before I got them. I won't be with pass labs 60.8 forever but i want to hear how the speaker morphs as i feed it better electronics. I want to understand what each component adds each step of the way and how the m6 reacts.
Remember, most of your own systems are optimized to your likings and preferences. You know exactly what to look for in order to find your own enjoyment. On the other hand, I'm not seeking a "game over" system. I'm exploring, playing and understanding with different brands and components and taking notes as i go.
We all know blue plus red equals purple. Blue plus yellow equals green color. I'm now playing with green plus purple and any other color to see what we get. That's all.

So, Mike travels to deliver the Gryphon amp and preamp to Jay. Gryphon changes distribution and Mike drops the line due to the requirement of displaying speakers. Jay loves and features the Gryphon products in his next video. Quite the timeline. I really feel for Mike here. I've been in retail in the past and have had similar experiences.

    Thank you.

Maybe i should add the fact that i don't get paid a thing if all i do are music videos. I do all that work and the copyright owners get paid. You all ever wondered WHY other high end channels just do the " yap yap" ??? Well now you know...

I also agree that it would be nice to hear the new amp on some different types of music once it’s burned in.

And so we begin to move up to another level with the M6. Watch and see this speaker get better and better while it is in my possession. I plan to take it to levels that haven't been seen (at least on youtube). More will come, expect the unexpected with me.

    Have a great weekend everyone

How much of the improvement is burn in and how much is from changes upstream? Were the speakers fully opened up before you started swapping amps, etc.?
