Heads-up, changes en route: Adding AudioNet’s engineering-marvel Humboldt to the system

Congrats. What a gorgeous piece of kit. I’ve heard that amp and it is impressive. Congrats and enjoy in good health!

An impressive piece, Kuoppis. At this level, it's really nice to hear that it's surpassing your expectations. Congratulations! Probably too early to ask, but I will anyway: does this upgrade make you want to upgrade something else in your system?

Thanks Mike, I’m happy it worked out at the day’s end.

It’s a nice one.

I’m re-working pretty much my entire system. But that’s not really related to the Humboldt, except that I do need a separate phono pre.

The overhaul is more a general thing I do from time-to-time.

Whoa! I see in another thread that you have new speakers on order!

Yes indeed, very much looking forward to that, but it will be a very long wait due to custom color.

Congrats on the Humboldt.

Perhaps the Scientist series phono will be released soon to compliment it :-)

Enjoy in good health.

Thank you [emoji3].

I had a look at the current PAM G2 with EXP, but decided to go for something else. Reason is that there’s quite a difference in sound signature between the scientist series and previous models.

While the Humboldt does all the loud stuff, bass, dynamics etc. very well, this is the kind of music where it pulls away from competition: delicate details, fast transients, tons of micro detail, enabled through 140 db channel separation and a > 120 db signal noise ratio.

coool, thx for the entertainement!

yeah, the humboldt sound can not really be described, the combination of abilities are too overhelming.
parts with higher specs than anything allowed to use a circuit that was not possible to use before.
this resulted in a sound with an enhanced spectrum. call it as you want.

the best thing, the pleasure is long term.
still after a year i am as fascinated as in the beginning.

I do agree, the Humboldt is really exceptional.

I’m very happy with it.

Is that a wifi signal in the upper right side of display?
If so whats it for?

Sorry, I misread your question. My bad.

I thought you were referring to the album cover picture. Yes, that’s Wifi in general and for Roon.

On the Humboldt display it is a Wifi connection for SW OTA updates. No need to connect cables. Wifi can be shut off when not in use.

After adding the Humboldt I feel like I don’t have an audio system anymore. Just music.

Adding the Brinkmann Edison mk2 as phono pre, as the Humboldt does not include a phono option, it appears there’s great synergy between these components.

Also, comparing this combination to the in-built phono pre in the Soulution 520, it’s on a different level. That said, I liked the Soulution phono better than the 6K Grandinote I had before.

The Humboldt’s dynamics, bass, full mids, sweet top-end and capability for micro detail retrieval come become apparent in a great way when listening to this nuanced Bach harpsichord recording. Also in the Viola di Gamba record played with period instruments. The materials and techniques used at the time are creating an overall softer presentation.

Monumental electronically amplified stuff or small ensemble is easy, but these delicate classical orchestral recordings are demanding a great amp. The amp’s qualities come to the fore, it’s really impressive.

So if I could have
Demo Humboldt + RME ADI-2 DAC
or
Demo MBS Premier DAC + Benchmark AHB-2 amp
.
.
Which pair should I take?
No other source but streaming

Of course the Humboldt with the MSB Premier [emoji3].

But out the two listed ones, I would take the Humboldt pairing. Reason being, that with a lesser DAC you will nevertheless be able to experience the amps qualities. With other combo, while the MSB is great, you will not really be able to get the full benefit of all its qualities driven by the lower tier amp.
