Re: Get together at Bob's Rhapsody
Wow!
What an awesome afternoon. Bob, thank you again for your hospitality. You could not have been any nicer. It was great to finally meet Mike, Nelson, Steve, Allen and Barry. Barry, thank you for driving and the great conversation. There was not an awkward moment or lull in conversation the whole day. All you guys are awesome!
The Raidho speakers were off the hook good. I love Goldmund, everything Goldmund, especially that model 280 amp. What a superb piece. I think it's better than some of the other amps I've had.Fleetwood Deville by Oswald Mills Audio, Vienna Acoustics Haydn Jubilee, Wharfedale Linton w/ stands, Klipsch RB-75, Klipsch RP-160M.

Re: Get together at Bob's Rhapsody
That is actually a GREAT combo, it's the Goldmund Integrated with the C1.1's.....nice simple system that would sound great. The 390.5 integrated Goldmund - Telos 390.5 is basically a Telos 280 with a high level Goldmund preamp in a nice Swiss case.........for all you connoisseurs out there

Man everybody seems to have had a blast. I'm definitely bringing my overindulgent ass there the next time. Music, friends, drink and food. Not much more needed other than the fairer sex...although that would make for a longer trip .
Now, I'm champing at the bit for viewpoints/impressions of the D3s and the various electronics that were paired with them. Lay it all down when you've all had some time to digest the trip.

Re: Get together at Bob's Rhapsody
Jelly lmao!!! I've heard that recently as well.
I'll give you my impressions Michael the other may have a different view.
After everyone left me, Nelson, Bob , and Key were sitting and talking about the d3's . There was a pop every now and again. Key who also heard the d1's break in with Bob mentioned that the d1's popped until they were fully broken in. And they do not pop anymore. So we all figure that they are not fully broken in yet. Even though they have a few hundred hours on them.
But even so they were world class speakers and had a huge almost round room filling sound that the d1 and the c1 .1 did not have.
We listened to a song on the c1.1 and then right after listened to the same song when the d3's were connected. Everyone looked at each other and said "is that the same song" it just had more of everything but I don't think they were as pinpoint accurate as the monitors which is like any speaker would be. . I don't remember the names of a lot of songs and there was a disc full of great so t's that no one knew who was on it but it sounded great.
I was sitting in the sweet spot and Mike was on my left. I turned to him and said that's 2 different pianos one on the right and one on the left center area. He said yes it is. Then I said , you don't get that on kefs , he just smiled and shook his head and "no you don't"
I was also floored by a song none of us ever heard with an accordion in it . That was spectacular!! If you like deep wide soundstage and to be able to hear everything being played or sung to perfection, then these are for u. Do they pump and drive like a revel studio or salon? Probably not. But I don't think these were made to do that.
With that said I'm wanting to buy a pair of c1.1's cause the value to performance is awesome.
But I'm not in the market for a full range like that nor can I afford d3's.
I'm sure a deal can be found on the d1's cause they seem to be the odd man out. HmmmmSteve

Thanks Steve.
I loved auditioning the monitors so your impressions help make the mental leap to the 3 ways. I'm almost certain the umph won't be missed by me if they're half as holographic as advertised. Again, sounds like you all had an experience to remember!Michael

Re: Get together at Bob's Rhapsody
Bob,
I can not tell you what an intense listening experience I had. I've had and do have some great gear but the Absolare preamp, Goldmund 280 and Raidho speakers (it did not matter which pair) were amazing. It's as if the musicians were right there is the room with us. The depth of the sound stage was incredible. The absolute detail of EVERY single instrument and voice was stunning in that you could hear it all - very clearly without any harshness.
+1 on both counts.
Ha!
Too funny.
Michael,
Let me say the TADs are not going to be in my signature much longer. The Raidhos are stunning. I would even take the C1.1's over my TADs. If you have not heard them, prepare to be blown away. There is nothing like them. One way I can describe it, and it does not do it justice, is that the Raidhos are like what headphones can do for the music in your head but 100X better. The music is there in front of you with amazing clarity. It's scary good.Fleetwood Deville by Oswald Mills Audio, Vienna Acoustics Haydn Jubilee, Wharfedale Linton w/ stands, Klipsch RB-75, Klipsch RP-160M.

Let me try to guess:
- Front row (from left to right): Steve - Joe - Barry => Actually Barry - Joe - Steve
- Back row (left to right): Bob - Mike - Allen => Correct
And Nelson took that picture. ...And Nelson pointed me to it in a prior post (don't know if it was the right direction though).
I hope I'm not too far off. ...And I'm real glad for you guys; it looks like great time was added today at Bob's New York refuge.
Oh, and from that youtube video posted in an earlier post, the other gentleman was Franck Tchang. ...The 'Key'?

Re: Get together at Bob's Rhapsody
Now that I am at my computer…
It was a really fun day yesterday, we heard lot of great things and saw a great Projection system too. Of course it was a day to discuss audio and every one there knew a lot about it. Except me! I was not as familiar with these brands as many others were, so I sat back and learned a lot. Everyone was friendly and so I did not embarrass myself! I did have my opinions on what sounded better, but nothing sounded bad at all.
My strongest opinion was in the surround sound mode where there was no center speaker here. I have had my system with and without a center channel and find it an important addition. So we talked about that a bit.
On the projector and using surround sound we saw and heard a musical piece “Legends of Jazz With Ramsey Lewis” that enjoyed so much that I bought the Blu ray on Amazon.
Joe was just incredibly nice, patient and easygoing. He must have walked 100 miles yesterday putting everything up. He foolishly invited us all back!!!!!
Just a great time and it was fun putting “faces” on people.Barry

Left to right is front row Barry -Joe-Steve . Back row is correct. And Nelson was snapping the pic.
And the burl veneer on the d3 was the nicest I've ever seen. Just beautiful. I tried to find a seam in it and could not. It's one wide slice. Very impressive.
I woke up this morning realizing I need a pair of monitors . Lol actually I knew that for awhile.Steve

Re: Get together at Bob's Rhapsody
That would be great if break-in helping the popping is right. But, I'm approaching 750 hrs on my D3s and they still pop. I have a feeling that it won't go away. In fact, I believe it has actually gotten worse as they have broken in. Maybe because of less resistance in the woofers??????
From going from the D1s to the D3s, I find that after playing with speaker positioning "A LOT" I'm getting just as good of pinpoint accuracy out of the D3s as I do with the D1s. It's one of the only multiple driver speakers that truly do what a monitor does.Jock

Agreed Jock . We also decided that it will take a lot of moving around to find the right spot for all the speakers. As I mentioned we were only 5 ft from them . And they must have been 10 ft off the front wall. The studio was lined with a collection of beautiful classic guitars and harp guitars . (Btw me and Bob are going to have to plan a day of just playing all those awesome guitars)I'm thinking a lot of reverb was going on because of all of them. And also Bob because of those super subs and theatre setup had a lot of sound deadening on the walls. From what I read here that is a no no with the raidhos. Bob being the awesomely nice guy he is told me if i decide to buy a pair he will bring them down to my house first so we could set em up and test them in my situation
I could only imagine what these speakers could do when the perfect spot is found. And Jock having both the d3 and d1 in my house like you do. I would die happy!!!! If I had any $$ I'd throw you an offer for the d1's. But that's a few months away . Lmao!!!Steve

Re: Get together at Bob's Rhapsody
Sounds like a great time. As I heard the D3 with all audionet and d1 with Rowland gear at CES I can echo but also caution that when they r set up wide and far from rear walls they really do create just an outstanding holographic wide and deep soundstage where the speakers just disappear. I think this has less to do with absolare vs goldmund vs. audionet or Rowland and more to do with proper set up of Raidho speakers. When I heard the d3 set up less wide and closer to rear wall and was not in a somewhat nearfield listening chair, the magic was gone to a great extent. Joe if you have the proper room to set up any of these Raidho speakers, I am sure all of your exisiting electronics will mimic what you heard. On the other hand if you can not set these up properly no equipment on earth with release the Raidhos magic soundstage.
Be good,

Re: Get together at Bob's Rhapsody
Doug, looking forward to meeting you! Hot sure about "you can never have too many" I was literally up to 50 guitars and for me it was too many. I have since "thinned the herd" and am down to about 10....quality vs. quantity. Again, looking forward to meeting you and having a listen.

Re: Get together at Bob's Rhapsody
Nick, could not agree with you more. I know that I could put on a Job225 with any of the Raidho's if they are spread far apart and if you drive the 225 within it's limitations you would get that magical soundstage. It's the Raidhos and their placement in the room that does it.

Re: Get together at Bob's Rhapsody
I can't believe it but the SoundKaos Wave 40's showed up today from Switzerland.6moons audioreviews: Soundkaos Wave 40 Yesterday we never even got close to hearing what the Absolare amps sounded like. On the Wave speakers, that are 93db and feel more like 100db....I'm running the volume control at 9 o'clock vs. 4 o'clock when driving the D3's. The 52 Watt SET's would be great in a small to medium room, but not in a large room like my current room.
The good part is that Steve and Doug are making another visit in about a month. I'm not going to say anymore, but I will let Steve and Doug give their report after hearing the true SET magic that the Absolare set up is capable of.....trust me (you always trust sales guys, right it's here now.....as a matter of fact Joe, get on the train and come back....it would be worth the trip!
