    % Calculator - I know it's not rocket Science

Been playing around with speaker placement according to Jim Smith's 80% to 83% distance rule. I recently repositioned my speakers after some cleaning and spaced them a little wider apart. The sound change was really good so I decided to do a quick measurement to see where I was. I was really close to the 80-83%. To do quick calculations I found this little link that is a 3 way % calculator so you can figure it out simply in various ways.

    Main System -
    Rotel RCD-1572 / Rega P3 > Luxman 505UX Mark II > Fyne Audio F502SPs > Synergistic Cables

Secondary - OPPO 93 > VAC CLA 1 MKII Pre > Odyssey Stratos > Dynaudio Audience 82s > Tara Labs Cables

the distance from tweeter to tweeter should be 80-83% of the distance from tweeter to ear at listening position.

I played around with that formula a while ago and my findings were that about 75% sounded better in my room with my speakers. Imaging in particular tends to be reduced if speakers are too widely spaced - and I rate imaging very highly!
Sources - NAD M50.2 (streamer, CD player, CD ripper, hard drive music store)
    Amplification - NAD M33 all-in-one, NAD M12 preamp (in reserve), Atma-Sphere Class D monos
Speakers - Avantgarde Duo XD, Avantgarde Duo (2006) - both aesthetically modified

I guess everyone's mileage will vary depending on room and speakers. I was closer to 75% when I moved them apart more and in my poor placement and room everything improved. Even of axis where I sit most of the time.

Don't forget the most important variable - what the wife allows us to do with speaker placement. LOL

I need 3 more inches that I don't have. I am hitting the wall on one side and into the path out of the room on the other side. I plan to try and sneak them a few more inches forward to compensate for it. Little at a time
