    Buyers Beware Myavstudio on Audiogon

Beware of the grading system and follow up from Myavstudio. I bought an Air Tight ATC-5 from them 9/10. When I received the amp it had been horribly abused, with scratches on the top, pitting and dents on the front faceplate, left channel not working, and mute not working. The Audiogon system would rate this preamp a 5/10. When I contacted the seller (Arnold) he said that he would get me a new unit as he is an Air Tight dealer.

For three months he's been ghosting me. I call him and he's sick, has covid, getting married, traveling, etc. Will never give me a firm date on the new preamp.

If you look at his latest feedback, he did this with a T+A amp as well.

    Buyers beware.

sorry to hear this ... if you paid by credit card then there is recourse by calling your credit card company and disputing the charge. the most likely outcome from a disputed charge like this is that you will be credited for the full amount of purchase.

hopefully you get this sorted as the ATC-5 is a nice piece of gear.

Attempting to work with a seller is always a good thing.
However there are time limits from PayPal, credit card companies and others for obtaining a refund.
In my opinion three months is unacceptable.
I am surprised that you allowed it to go on this long.
Good luck with your attempt to rectify the issue.

I agree with you Jadedavid, his feedback was excellent and I trusted that he would follow through. Good lessons learned.

I have a thread on this subject going on Audiogon, several people have talked about issues dealing with this guy. Sadly they didn't leave negative feedback. This entire experience really makes me have to rethink the entire feedback process on Audiogon.

People often don't like to leave negative feedback as they're concerned it will result in negative feedback for them. I don't buy and sell things often.

I caught him advertising a Dac that was a prior version and he finally agreed to add that it could be upgraded by the factory for x amount and changed his description of the product. Then the ad expired. When he relisted it, it was back to being the newest model.

I had a terrible experience buying my former Rhea Phono stage from a guy in Cali who moves equipment for a dealer in the LA area. I had to have the whole power supply rebuilt. Aesthetix and Jim White were very kind and the charges were more than fair and I got some upgrades with it and they were well worth it. Sold it to a friend when I had to get out of vinyl.

Re: Buyers Beware Myavstudio on Audiogon

    UPDATE!!!

Audiogon has removed my negative feedback and my forum post about My AV Studio / Tweak Geek. When I contacted Audiogon, they said they removed the feedback because the credit card company gave me a credit. I responded that My AV Studio refused to refund my money and that I had to go to my credit card company. Also, I pointed out that he violated their policy shipping me a preamp that he misrepresented as 9/10.

When it comes down to it, he is a dealer that pays Audiogon add fees.

So....know that you CANNOT trust the feedback system through Audiogon. Buy with PayPal or a credit card. Audiogon DOES NOT have your back.

Re: Buyers Beware Myavstudio on Audiogon

Audiogon have changed radically these past few years. It seems to have become a site for home based resellers and used gear dealers. Some of the sellers claim authorized status but they are not. USAudiomart is a nicer place and they don't charge! That they removed your negative feedback is a huge red flag for all to see!

I wouldn't disregard SG for 1 company. I've bought more than a few pieces for my system on AG and USAM and I just use the same diligence I would buying on craiglist and haven't had any surprises.

Audiogon is useless. I’m going through a similar issue with Viking Acoustics now. I made a thread to warn potential buyers of their shady practices and poor quality. Audiogon removed it within 24 hours. Been dealing with my issue for 1 year now and finally reached the point of going public.

Tweak Studio and Tweek Geek (Mike G) are completely unrelated to each other, in different states, and different owners. I do business with Tweek Geek and he is highly reputable, flawless transactions every time.

Sorry you had to go through this, not fun at all.

Ah, I thought that seller name rang a bell. I bought some Audioquest Panther XLR cables from him earlier this year. Under $500 so not a big deal, but the way the business was conducted rubbed me the wrong way. Very friendly on the phone, but also very good at providing excuse after excuse. Apparently the cables were not in hand (not disclosed in ad) and he had to pick them up from a customer, but couldn't get out there until the next weekend. Since I graciously didn't pester him about this for a week, he rewarded me by actually waiting another weekend to pick them up. Then when they finally get shipped, it ended up being a multi-week ordeal since it hit a "delivery exception" when it got to my city. It turns out he wrote in the wrong street address #. He claimed to be working with FedEx to straighten things out, but I did ask him many times "can you verify you got the address right, please, and make sure FedEx has the correction", because it was clear to me (and not him) that this was the root cause issue. I finally got the package only because the FedEx DRIVER somehow figured out the error, eventually (probably connecting my unique name to other packages with the correct address). The wrong (invalid) address was still on the label.

The cables did arrive as described, but clearly he didn't have a plan to grade them for the listing other than "trust what the guy holding the gear says". Seems like he's running a fairly haphazard consignment/resale operation. When I buy from a fellow hobbyist, it almost always ships within next 2 business days. If there are to be any delays (like vacation) then that's discussed up front BEFORE payment. And the address is always correct! ALWAYS! This guy is just an amateur posing like a pro.

Ugh, I had forgotten my frustrations with this transaction.
