Big news! Gryphon returns to the U.S.

    Official Press Release:

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: JUNE 5th 2017 (LOS ANGELES, CA) GRYPHON AUDIO DESIGNS RETURNS TO NORTH AMERICAN HOMES WITH ON A HIGHER NOTE, LLC AS ITS EXCLUSIVE DISTRIBUTOR AFTER A TEN YEAR SABBATICAL. Gryphon Audio Designs, an internationally acclaimed Danish high end audio manufacturer, known for their award-winning sonic performance and luxurious finish, has selected On A Higher Note, LLC as its exclusive distributor for North America. A California based premier promoter of musical integrity and distributor of synergistic components handpicked to preserve and recreate the purest essence of the live music experience in the home environment, On A Higher Note with its deep dealer network of audio advisors serving the same aim is distinctly poised to reintroduce The Gryphon’s extensive line of premium electronics and loudspeaker series to music lovers in the United States and Canada.

“We are very excited to be able to bring The Gryphon back to North American homes. Having known and admired Flemming Rasmussen and his team for many years, we are delighted to be presented with this true gem of an opportunity to be able to share our passion for music through Gryphon’s unapologetically uncompromising high-end audio systems,” exclaimed Philip O’Hanlon, President of On A Higher Note. “Whether it is in the selection of music to demonstrate the musical essence, the dedication in the setup of individual audio systems to showcase its highest performance, or the depth of knowledge in extracting synergy from every product On A Higher Note distributes, Philip and his team has demonstrated their commitment to musical integrity, best matching Gryphon’s design philosophy and manufacturing fortitude,” commended Flemming E. Rasmussen, Founder and CEO of Gryphon Audio Designs.

About Gryphon Audio Designs

Gryphon Audio Designs is the brainchild of Flemming E. Rasmussen and the fulfilment of a lifelong dream to allow the purest essence and the excitement of life music experience to be reproduced in the luxury of a home environment, preserving the integrity of the original music with no subtractive or additive colorations. Gryphon Audio Designs was founded in 1985 with its first product, the now legendary Gryphon Head Amp which grew from a one-off spare time project developed only for the designers’ own home systems. Gryphon Audio Designs achieved immediate and on-going global acclaim for state of the art performance, intuitive ergonomics and the stunning beauty of the cost-no-object Gryphon preamplifiers and power amplifiers. The Gryphon offers stereo audio systems that start at US$60,000 and can exceed US$600,000.

Are EU brands not too expensive in the US compared to US brands? When I see what US brands cost in the Netherlands compared to US prices I would think something similar would be true vise versa.

If I have the prices correct:
    Magico S3 mkII
    US 28k dollar
    NL 40k euro

VAT has a lot to do with it, as it applies to margins and shipping costs too and can be 20% in the EU.

US prices are usual pre- sales tax and even that is a single digit.

Take a $10K retail US made item in the US. Shipping is normally imputed in that price and with a 6% sales tax, the takeaway price is $10.6k all in (no discount).

Same item the EU, assume shipping is a flat $300, additional dealer/distrib margin is 10%, FX rate price buffer (to ensure no loss on fluctuations= another 10%, warranty surcharge to handle cross continentally= another 10%). Interim pre-VAT price of $13.6K, then with 20% VAT included in the quoted retail price we get a final published total of $16.3K or roughly €14.9K vs the published US $10K price!

It appears to be 60% more, but is really like 53% more in take home price. That jives well with the Magico prices you qute which seems to imply a 57% upward price adjustment.

Lesson is that its cheaper to buy the local US producst and when you factor tax rate differences, it gets to be more.

Of course going from the EU to the US, you benefit from the lower tax there, PLUS the illusion of a lower sticker price as the sales tax is NOT shown as part of retail. In theory this means a real advantage for US exports...BUT often, the US manufacturer does NOT think in terms of export and is satified with the USA/Canada market and its relative lack of complexity vs exporting.

Re: Big news! Gryphon returns to the U.S.

Not all prices are that different. There are many products where US price is almost eaqual to the EU price, only in EUR (1 USD = 1 EUR).

People also tend to forget, that the published US prices do not include the sales tax, which in case of California for example, varies from 8 to 10% (depending on the city you live in).

Still pretty darn pricey regardless of where you live. But you get what you paid for in quality.

The Diablo 300 is a steal for what it sounds like and the build quality. When you add the DAC module, it's a top complete drawer system.

? I can't recall seeing that too often.

I'm jonesing for the Coliseum amp(s). Absolutely gorgeous sounding and looking.

Definitely bringing in the Kalliope. My friends in Asia tell me it's awesome. One person I trust said it whipped his Nagra HD DAC.

Re: Big news! Gryphon returns to the U.S.

I auditioned my Summit X's with an all Gryphon system for about 3 hours. Also listened to the Kharma Exquisite Classic with a different but full Gryphon system. Gryphon is why I fell in love with Class A.
