Re: Another High-End Robbery
Thanks for posting this Myles...'philes should be heeding the below warning message posted on the front page of their website if any brand new Audeze cans coming up for sale cheap. I'm sure they won't mind me re-posting it here -
IMPORTANT NOTICE
Audeze was robbed last night (Feb 28) and about $250,000 worth of headphones was stolen. You should be highly suspicious if anyone other than an Authorized Audeze dealer offers you Audeze headphones for sale at a reduced price. We do not allow our dealers to sell via Amazon, eBay, Craigslist etc., so deals on these sites should be researched before you purchase. You should also be very concerned if their headphones do not have a serial number, or the seller refuses to give you the serial number before purchase. All Audeze headphones have a serial number on the inside of the pin block. We will soon publish a list of all stolen products’ serial numbers. In addition, Audeze is offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the thieves. If you have any information or questions, please write to: support@audeze.com

Re: Another High-End Robbery
This is all so sad. I hate thieves. When I was in the military and lived in an apartment in LV, someone broke in and stole my turntable and LP collection and the rest of the system which belonged to my roommate. We were pretty sure we knew who did it, but we could never prove it. I never forgot the feeling of walking in the apartment after work and discovering the stereo system was gone. Anybody who knowingly buys stolen stereo equipment (or stolen anything) sucks too.

Re: Another High-End Robbery
With all of us on the lookout, we should be able to catch these bastards. Once they publish the serial numbers, every pair of Audeze headphones will be under examination. Hopefully we can all work together and keep an eye out.

Re: Another High-End Robbery
I take it this was a burglary not a true robbery, which is usually at gunpoint. nevertheless it sucks.

Re: Another High-End Robbery
My, aren't we getting concise with our words. Of course it was a burglary as it was a smash and grab in the middle of the night when the store was unoccupied. I don't think I have ever heard of a stereo store being robbed at gunpoint. That's usually reserved for places with cash on hand. If you are desperate for cash, you are not going to hold up a stereo store. Too much time and trouble to resell the goods and convert them to cash.

Re: Another High-End Robbery
man, i cant win for trying...is this kick schleprock day or what
apparently, the crew that hit audeze were a lot more sophisticated than that. the security cameras caught them concealed head to toe and crawling to avoid the motion sensors. seems clear they knew what they were doing.

Re: Another High-End Robbery
That really sucks. My guess? The headphones are headed across the Atlantic. Like those 150 skate boards some crook tried charging to my credit card and having shipped to Poland.

Re: Another High-End Robbery
I just saw this on the morning news. Music Lovers was hit with a smash and grab for the second time this year. Something is definitely going on in SF.

Re: Another High-End Robbery
burglaries are on the rise because the jail time has shortened - it pays to steal - another consequence of the overcrowed prison system. I'm seeing it around me, one of my clients had their box truck stolen twice in the last 3-mos to burglarize the same company next door. they took over a million in inventory and sunk a family business, their insurance would only cover a fraction of the claim.

Re: Another High-End Robbery
This has been the MO of several recent SF late night hits. The Chanel and Prada stores got hit a bout a month ago. Around 3 am they simply ram a truck thru doors or windows and take as many Croc and high end handbags they can get. And boom they are gone with several 100,000 dollars worth of easy to move product on ebay or Craigs lists. I guess this is now spillover to high end Audio. Very sad indeed. Interestingly the Chanel store had video of event but would not release to news agency or police as they wanted to avoid more negative PR, plus their insurance will cover the losses.

Re: Another High-End Robbery
Kind of reminds me of a movie about a businessman's child being kidnapped: the guy was asked a $1 million ransom but his reaction was spectacular: he made a taped public statement with $2 million cash on his desk, saying the money would go to anyone that brings him the kidnappers, dead or alive.
This being said, I'd rather mess with the NYPD than with a multibillion dollar multinational.
