Now we are talking high end!
Looking for Christmas gift for my 10 year old daughter. She has Sonos/Roon in her room, but I decided to buy her a beginner turntable and a few Taylor Swift albums. I've been strictly digital for some time. No dedicated listening room, and I'm going to wait until there a fewer footballs flying and gymnastics moves being made around my equipment before heading back to vinyl.
How nostalgic for me though, thinking of my own first turntable, and endlessly studying record sleeves.
I'm hoping she will love this and get the bug....
Anyone else remember their first turntable with built in speaker?

My father gave me a used I-don't-know-what in 1962. It was tube of course with the built in speaker, a lid and a flip needle for 78's, much like the typical grade school player. My only record was "Return to Sender" by the King. My first album was The Monkees mono LP and I still have it, worse for wear from the nickel taped on the headshell.

My memories were from a blue general electric (I believe) turntable with about a 3 inch speaker. My sister and I would sit on either side... listening to The Carpenters and Barry Manilow...we were rockers from the start! Eventually, I remember my parents getting us a Radio Shack Turntable with tuner and separate speakers for Christmas one year. It wasn't cheap at the time, but the turntable wouldn't play without skipping! Dad was furious, but eventually bought us Radio Shack systems with separate turntable, a small amp/preamp, and speakers. (My first separates!). And thus the journey began.

That is a cool piece? How does it sound?

She actually has the "Turntable Speaker" model. It sounds quite good with the Orbit table and an Ortofon MM. She has been living in small spaces, dorm, apartments, etc until last year when she bought a small house in Denver. It doesn't require space for a spread of 2 speakers, so it suited her purposes very well. It definitely sounds better than many of the all in one boom box type blue tooth setups I've heard. She also has a pair of Audioengine A5+'s I gave her, but she still uses the Spinbase most of the time.

Nice gift, I love it, and getting her type of music. Now if the fever hasn't ruined it she can have the adventure of yard sale and thrift shtore hunting. I used to love hitting yard sales looking for music.

I was probably around your daughter's age when my folks bought me one of those suitcase type record players. Only one speaker and it was doing good if it was 3". I just wanted something to play records on.

I saw JBL has a $399.00 turntable now that is Bluetooth. At first I thought, why, but many kids, folks have something now that accepts BT and it's an affordable way to get your toes wet.

My goal is to start brainwashing her now, and eventually have her be my date at future Axpona's...and have her actually be interested! I will plan a bribe with dinner at Frontera in the evening...

So...my Angel's Horn had unacceptable wow/flutter/skipping. Had to upgrade to a Pro-ject 1 (came in white) and Elac Debut Connx speakers. The latter are a multi functional delight (See Steve Guttenberg's review...I can imagine these in many dorms and bedrooms). I remember my Dad going through this as a kid. Had to keep buying more expensive equipment to get a turntable that actually worked. And so it begins...
