Sure they're cute when they are little and you first bring them home from the speaker store but do you realize how big they get when they grow up?

Would love to hear your impression compared to S5 mk2.

The Sopra 1s sound terrific. While I've only heard them in show conditions, I was impressed with their musicality.

+1

Combined with Naim electronics, they play way above their price point.

But the best part is how much fun they are to listen to!!!

I've heard the 1's and 2's at my local dealer feed by AR and Cary tube products and these speakers are nice and very enjoyable. I would bet the 3's are even a step above.

Early umpression.... best thing Focal has done south of the Grande and Stella Utopia.......

Agreed. The Sopra 3 has a much bigger cabinet than the Sopra 2 and it a much more substantial speaker. The specs of the 3 vs 2 don't tell the whole story. But the 2 is really good for small to mid rooms. The 3's work well in a mid to large room.

I'm surprised by how smooth the tweeter is on all three (after some break in).

and sorry the Sopra 1 vs the Diablo utopia? I had read that the new Sopra line sound very different vs the utopia: is true?
I use Wilson Sasha2 but a pair of Sopra 1 is a big tempetion!!!! (as second speaker or the 2 in place of the Wilson....??!?)

of course with solid state ampli pass class A!
thx

Diablo plays bigger - but Sopra 1 is a great speaker in its own right and price point.

Room, what for musik, personal taste,.....

@ Mike:
the Dialbo Utopia are for you better vs the Sopra? at the same price you go with the Diablo?

I have found a Scala v2 demo from a delaer for 1k more vs the sopra 2 -> no way and go with the Scala? the sasha2 are not at the same level with the Focal for your taste?

thxs

I'm not the right guy to ask about Wilson after my difficult experience with the Alexia's in my room and the nightmarish, three ring circus I went through to get a pair. As for Focal, if you can get Scala V2's for $1k more than Sopra 2's, DO IT! The Scala V2 is a stellar speaker. The Scala V2 tweeter needs a good 500-1000+ hours to break in, but after that, it's silky smooth and detailed. My two favorite Focal speakers for "normal" sized rooms is the Sopra 3 and Scala V2. The Sopra 1/2 are great for small-mid sized rooms.

To give another opinion on the Sopra vs Utopia debate. I would characterize it this way. The Utopia line is more of an audiophile line. Utopias are better at all the things people would talk about on a site like Audio Shark. Soundstage is bigger, they are higher resolution, better at the frequency extremes etc. The Sopra line is aimed at a different audience. People who have no desire to obsess over cables and room treatments, etc. etc. The Sopras sound great with the most modest equipment. They are very balanced, and in the case of the Sopra 3s nearly full range. Although the sound very different, Magico did a similar thing with the Q line vs the S line. One is more resolving, another is for the "masses". And just like what happened with the S line in Magico, the Sopra line is extremely popular. Focal simply can't keep up with the demand for the Sopra line right now, which is really saying something considering the size of the company.

My recommendation is to listen carefully to both, there are no losers here.
