The Sopra 1s sound terrific. While I've only heard them in show conditions, I was impressed with their musicality.

    +1

Combined with Naim electronics, they play way above their price point.

But the best part is how much fun they are to listen to!!!

I've heard the 1's and 2's at my local dealer feed by AR and Cary tube products and these speakers are nice and very enjoyable. I would bet the 3's are even a step above.

Agreed. The Sopra 3 has a much bigger cabinet than the Sopra 2 and it a much more substantial speaker. The specs of the 3 vs 2 don't tell the whole story. But the 2 is really good for small to mid rooms. The 3's work well in a mid to large room.

I'm surprised by how smooth the tweeter is on all three (after some break in).

Diablo plays bigger - but Sopra 1 is a great speaker in its own right and price point.

I'm not the right guy to ask about Wilson after my difficult experience with the Alexia's in my room and the nightmarish, three ring circus I went through to get a pair. As for Focal, if you can get Scala V2's for $1k more than Sopra 2's, DO IT! The Scala V2 is a stellar speaker. The Scala V2 tweeter needs a good 500-1000+ hours to break in, but after that, it's silky smooth and detailed. My two favorite Focal speakers for "normal" sized rooms is the Sopra 3 and Scala V2. The Sopra 1/2 are great for small-mid sized rooms.

    Re: Focal Sopra No. 1's

To give another opinion on the Sopra vs Utopia debate. I would characterize it this way. The Utopia line is more of an audiophile line. Utopias are better at all the things people would talk about on a site like Audio Shark. Soundstage is bigger, they are higher resolution, better at the frequency extremes etc. The Sopra line is aimed at a different audience. People who have no desire to obsess over cables and room treatments, etc. etc. The Sopras sound great with the most modest equipment. They are very balanced, and in the case of the Sopra 3s nearly full range. Although the sound very different, Magico did a similar thing with the Q line vs the S line. One is more resolving, another is for the "masses". And just like what happened with the S line in Magico, the Sopra line is extremely popular. Focal simply can't keep up with the demand for the Sopra line right now, which is really saying something considering the size of the company.

My recommendation is to listen carefully to both, there are no losers here.

Just had few days of home demo session of sopra n2. Very impressed with the speakers.

Bass is one of the tightest I have heard. And the high is different from other high end speakers I have heard. Details but not aggressive. It is a joy to listen to some old collections. Imaging is excellent.

kinda unfair to be showing those 2's and 3's in a thread about the 1's....

    Re: Focal Sopra No. 1's

at Mike: the Sopra 3 with the XA100.5 is a good match?
    what for pre ?

I have the Sasha2 with the XA100.8. yeah....thats' great but a pair of Magico is too in my mind but $$$$ (sell the Sasha2 2 jahr old for 11k. USD is not a good business fo for....S5mk2 are around 44k. here....(and is a great price vs other country where is 54k !!!) -> I keep the Sasha and I add a pair of Focal: Sopra line 1/2 ?! or Utopia diablo .... -> be tweeter is very lovely......

    what do you think?

    Wilson & Focal
    or
    Magico?
(but is very expensive vs the Focal option....)

    thank you

    Re: Focal Sopra No. 1's

I know this is a old post but I purchased
the 15a new and really like them . The problem
is I also just heard the Sopra 3 and liked them . I don’t need
2 pairs of speakers but I’m on the fence and thinking
of buying the sopra 3 also and spending some time with both
Any feedback and thoughts on both ?

Do you mean Martin Logan 15a vs Sopra 3? Totally different designs. Both have pro’s and con’s. For my tastes, I would lean toward the 15a’s, but the Sopra 3’s have a wider sweet spot.

Both great choices, but 15a gets my vote. It’s an out of the box design (no pun intended) and I think will hold its value more. Pair it with a Constellation Inspiron 1.0 stereo amp and call it a day.

I would be interested in hearing more about what you experienced with the 15A's and why you are moving on.

    Re: Focal Sopra No. 1's

I went and listened to the scala evo this weekend , I prefer my 15a’s .
I found nothing wrong with the 15a it’s a hard speaker to beat for the price .
The 15’a just fill the room sound large with excellent mid range

I have ML's and prefer them as well. I listen to mostly female vocals and find them to be the very best for my listening preferences.
