    Amp for Sopra no2

Hey guys what amp do you guys recommend for the Sopra no2? Currently using a Rotel class D amp rated at 100 watts 8ohm and 200 watts 4ohm. Do you think this is good enough for now and I can upgrade amps later.

I was looking at the Wadia a315 or the axiom 1250, all input is greatly appreciated.

I know this is Mike's territory, but you might want to take a look at this Odyssey Kismet on Audio Circle. I have one of the exact same amps. Unusually low price seems to be a the result of a small ding on the right rear corner of the chassis case which you would have to walk right up to to see. If it bothers you I'm sure Klaus would sell you another chassis cover, but I would just touch it up and play on.

    Amp for Sopra no2

MicroMega M1?? Or maybe a devialet 120 if you can stretch the budget a little. I've never heard the micromega but have extensive use of devialet/focal and it's very good.

MicroMega M1 is what I would recommend. I've heard the combo. It's wonderful.

It would replace your preamp, DAC, etc. as well.

    Amp for Sopra no2

How big is your room? If it's not too big, Pass XA30.5 or INT-30A (integrated) would be wonderful and it'll stay under 3 grands. And don't let that class A 30 watts rating fool you, it has >100 AB watts in reserve.

    Re: Amp for Sopra no2

Hey guys thanks so much for the suggestions very overwhelming. But I think I have narrowed it down to 2 both are way out of my budget.

But first I need something with cinema pass through at least that's what I think it's called. My room is 10 by 12 and half.

I am moving from a pair of Axiom M80s I know big jump so I really want to do this right and not half ass it.

My 3 top choices right now is the Devialet 120, MicroMega M1 and a used Vac Sigma 160i.

I Think I can cross off the Micromega, so my main concern is my room is small and I don't know if the Vac will cause a lot of heat. Plus I worry about Hum. My concern with the Devialet is power I think it should be more than enough but I don't know.

Thanks again for all the input guys.

The VAC is going to put off heat especially in a room that size, whether or not it is a concern depends on where you live and how much tolerance you have for blasting the A/C and the subsequent power bills. At what point did we go from power amp to integrated/all-in-one unit?

    Re: Amp for Sopra no2

What are you trying to accomplish with this system and what other gear are you bringing to the party besides the Rotel. This info will help so that we can tell what you have that is workable and what is not. I for one don't like "all-in-one" solutions that include the digital component as that changes every couple of months and will again soon as the new chips from ESS, AKM, and others that were announced at CES become available for use. If possible keep your front end and your amp separate. If space is an issue there are many more than ever half sized components available.
I am in the Florida Panhandle so we face the same heat challenges. At my house the tube amp goes into the system in November and comes out in April. There is nothing wrong with Class D amps as long as they are good ones with the amps modules mated with a quality buffer board. If you like the sound of the Rotel with the Sopras then just find a higher developed Class D strategy. There are several options available. If you don't like the sound then look in another direction. Like your Sopras my Nola KO's tell you plenty about what is in front of them.

Congratulations on choosing a fantastic speaker.
The Sopra No 2 is a gem - give it quality amplification and it will shine.

Focal uses Lavardin amps at a lot of shows. Superb gear.
Don't get fooled by their humble power ratings.
Their integrated models can be found used for $2 to $3k.

Are you just doing 2:1 for both or are there other speakers that need to be taken into consideration. If the later it becomes complicated.

Just saw this ad and remembered this thread. I can't recommend this amp enough for < $3k range. You can find a ton of reviews on the net. I had this side by side with Bryston 4BSST2 driving Electra 1028 Be a few years ago. Granted 1028 Be are fairly efficient speakers (just like Sopra no.2), but IME, I much preferred XA30.5 and I kept it for 3 years until last year. Do note that 4BSST2 may drive more difficult load better.

This decision just keeps getting harder. 5 days ago I was sure I was going Wadia, 2 days ago I was sure I was going Devialet. Today I went all over the map now I am torn between integrated or just pure amp.

I just want to sit down and not worry about do I need more power or, maybe I should of got a DAC. I am starting to drive my wife crazy. Today she said if she hears the word DAC or amp out of my mouth she will cut my manhood off and shove it in my subwoofer. My wife scares me I need to make a decision.

Get a sealed sub, so that she can't shove anything in.

If it is integrated, take a look at this one. It's basically XA30.5 amp + a volume control.

First 30 watts is class A (and that is rated very conservatively) and it has 100+ class A/B watts in reserve. And those beryllium tweeters of yours love class A power.
