I would think worse come to worst someone will pick them up. It's not the kind of company that would just disappear.

    Gibson facing bankruptcy

Yes unfortunately on the guitar side the company has been completely mismanaged with crappy QC and heavy handed tactics with retailers as well as SKU proliferation has driven the company into penalty territory with customers and retailers and the company has gone on a non-guitar acquisition binge that has stretched their balance sheet and put the company in financial ruin.

Unfortunately what you say is true, the guitars have been suffering from quality problems.

Old Gibson axes are still great.

Some of their Custom shop reissues are still exceptional guitars. The one in my avatar was one of them. Hand wound pickups and gorgeous wood. Upwards of 6K though. Long gone now with most of my electrics. Boo hoo

    Gibson facing bankruptcy

Here is what I think, the challenge is today’s mainstream music is not the music of yesterday. Growing up with Hendrix, Clapton, Page, Santana followed by Van Halen etc promoted instruments, in this case the guitar.

Heck, our music program in school had guitar classes, band is just not popular today.

Popular music today is not the rock of yesterday and not promoting the heroes that hung on our walls that we prized.

Gotta restart the scene to get sales moving.

It’s late and I may be babbling, hope this makes sense.

I actually think your analysis is spot on: these are not the days of axe swinging guitar heroes in lycra pants.

    Re: Gibson facing bankruptcy

In 1974 my dad (RIP) bought me a Gibson J160E, the beautiful sunburst model John Lennon used in the ‘60’s which still sounds amazing to this day. I felt so lucky to have such an amazing guitar as a kid. What an heirloom and keepsake. It oozes quality and so many memories come back to me every time I take it out of its case.

I also have a Gibson Everly Brothers reissue with the mother of pearl stars laden down the neck. Gibson oozed quality and it’s quite a shame what is happening to the company now.

I've recently had a chat with Esoteric Japan. They say their business is good, profitable, and is absolutely not affected by Gibson.
