Re: Esoteric N-01XD
Oh, so the Lumin app and Esoteric are identical? the person I quoted says the Lumin one is updated more often. They both don't seem as fully featured as Roon. I love Roon and bought a lifetime subscription, so I am really hoping they certify soon AND there is no loss in sound quality. Roon has been very good sounding for me so far...

Re: Esoteric N-01XD
Works for me with the Teac NT-505 (same company) and always has flawlessly. You gain the advantage of the latest applicable upgrades. I don't think either the Teac or Esoteric app has been updated in some time. Any of the three apps will work so take your pick.

Re: Esoteric N-01XD
Got it. I have a very nice network bridge (SotM SMS-200 ultra neo special edition with the associated linear power supply) and I really like it. Ideally, I'll be able to sell it after the N-01XD is Roon certified, but before I do, I plan to do some SQ comparisons between the Esoteric/Lumin app via Ethernet and Roon via SoTm/USB and see how things shake out.
Either way, I am sure things will sound fantastic! Can't wait.--Marc

Re: Esoteric N-01XD
It is not Roon Ready certified. It is in process to be certified, but not there yet. If you ordered it after 9/21/20, you are out of luck, you have to wait until Roon certifies it. If you ordered it before that date, you will need to prove it to Roon, and they give you a “developer” status to use it with Roon.

Yes, I ordered the whole shebang: Classic PSU, VFS, DAC. It should arrive this week. I can't wait, the biggest audio purchase I have ever made, 4X my last biggest purchase
I am waiting for your N-01XD to come, so I could hear your opinion on it.

Re: Esoteric N-01XD
From their webpage:
We are pleased to announce that the N-01XD I/F Firmware V1.20 is now available.
Please see download page.
Supports new volume control specifications
Add setting for Network display mode and Version display
Improve some performances and minor bug fix
Since Lumin did much of the software for this unit, wonder if the referenced volume control implementation is Leedh?

Re: Esoteric N-01XD
I believe Lumin is only involved with the network bridge with Esoteric. Maybe Peter Lie can confirm that. Tagging @wklie
As far as the Roon Ready is concerned, this will come with a network firmware upgrade. Not the current I/F upgrade (Heck I don’t even know what “I/F” means in English).

Re: Esoteric N-01XD
Ok, but that is still vague. It's not the network or usb interface, so what is it?
Anyway, I mentioned earlier that the manual says we can update the network interface through the app. I hope that is true, but it's a bit odd to have all these different ways to update the player.--Marc

Re: Esoteric N-01XD
Yes, you need to use the Esoteric Sound Stream app to update the network firmware. The base I/F firmware needs to be updated using a computer.

Re: Esoteric N-01XD
Esoteric has not licensed Leedh Processing Volume.
The I/F firmware is the main unit firmware that interfaces with the network board or SACD drive.Peter Lie

Tape is supposed to be the best sound quality. I’ve only experienced an older Sony reel to reel and it was pretty awesome. I’m sure a new setup properly done should be excellent.
