    New Amps

Finished a monoblock pair of FirstWatt M2 clones. Called the M2x at DIYAudio. Silly components - AudioNote Tantalum 1/2 watt resistors, AudioNote bipolar + Mundorf caps.

The M2x sports 5 different input daughter boards. I have finished 2 of them, one of which needs some tuning I’m not ready for. The other 3 are in process. Still playing with it, I still have to put the speaker protection circuit inline.

This is the first amp(s) to demonstrate a front to back soundstage, in addition to side to side. Holographic?

I do need a new rack, as evidenced by my picture. This has been a wonderful surprise. I was prompted into resuming some DIY by the Covid downtime. I have new speakers in production (Daedalus Audio Muse Studio), but will be delaying a new amp consideration for now.

Yes, it does look good and satisfaction you built it.

I was thinking to do this with my son for a summer project, where are you finding these kits?

    Re: New Amps

Take a look at DIYAudio.com and its Store.

You can read about the M2x in the Pass Labs forum, look for the DIYAudio M2x thread. They sell the circuit boards, and cases - I got a pair of the Deluxe 4u cases from them. I got them for another project, that fizzled as I got busy at work. I had the front panels customized at Front Panel Express. I got the brass plaques to cover that name with the M2x name. I suspect I will get a new set of front panels, and have them customized.

Although there is a great build guide, and a long thread about this amp, you will have to source and obtain all the parts (transistors/resistors/capacitors, etc) for it. The BOM that is published in the guide has most of the part numbers valid at mouser.com, which is where I get a lot of my parts. The store also has an easy to use Power Supply Board, again with a nice guide, and thread to ask questions in.

Due to the modular constuction of this amp, it was not as easy to build as some of the other projects available there.
