    DIY record clamp

I drilled a hole in a hockey puck to use as a record clamp for my Thorens TD-160. What do you all think?

Yup..they work great....If you want a bit more weight, use a training puck (10oz) versus the 6oz standard.

I actually created my own from a bushing kit purchased at an auto parts store...weighs 10oz

It sounds like a good idea, and the rubber is naturally non-resonant.

    Re: DIY record clamp

I had a record that was a bit convex/concave. One side would have speed variations which drove me crazy. My buddy Rob suggested that I drill a hole in a hockey puck and give it a whirl. It fixed the problem and now I use it all the time. It's a great $2 alternative to higher priced clamps.

Wow Rob, you are a very creative person on a great budget.

Mine is an Audio-Technica (AT618) Disc Stabilizer (made in Japan) and using both rubber (hockey puck style) and hard shiny metal (and quite heavy) materials.
Thirty dollars ($30), but I bet I could have made my own for less than five bucks.

Youpi for all of us, DIYers!
