Very interesting - Devialet's speaker measurements.

Estelon XB, Magico S5 and two other very highly regarded loudspeakers.

Black is desired, orange is measured.

Kinda fun to go through them all and see how they measured, I know they are just measurements but fun nevertheless.

Nice one Mark. Checked this morning and wouldn't you know it - they produced a SAM profile for the Raidho D1's . Been waiting for that for some time.

No idea - just found about it this morning , after I felt super-inspired by Mark's posting....I've been bugging Devialet about it for a few weeks

Well, early days and these are just very initial reactions......but this might just be a Bingo moment . I dialled the SAM involvement back to 5% right from the start and put on a number of tracks that had caused real problems for the D1's irrespective of amplification used - typically bass bloat, violent woofer excursions , woofer defibrillation (for want of a better phrase) and booming throughout the room. So far...nothing of the sort . All the Raidho advantages of the wall-to-wall soundstage, the immersive-ness , depth were all still there in evidence . I'm still exploring this but it just might be the solution long-suffering Raidho owners have been looking for. So far, I'm pretty happy

Just 5%? What happens if you go 100%? Good to hear its working. The Devialet SAM technology is brilliant.

Re: Very interesting - Devialet's speaker measurements.

If you look at the claims of each speaker, the results seem pretty amazing. For example, the KEF LS50's lower bass limit before SAM is 44.8Hz, after SAM 28.6Hz! I'm going to try that as soon as I get a chance. Can't see how that is possible. One side benefit according to Devialet of SAM is that once engaged, SAM also protects the woofer from being overdriven.
Industry disclaimer: I am a dealer of D'Agostino Electronics, Wilson Audio, McIntosh, Devialet, KEF, Magnepan, Martin Logan, Wadia PMC, Nordost, VPI, Spatial speakers, Audeze, Wyred 4 Sound etc, so anything I say related to Audio/Video is most likely biased...not that there's anything wrong with that!

Re: Very interesting - Devialet's speaker measurements.

Pardon me for being skeptical but you're telling me Devaliet knows more about the speaker design than the speaker's designer? Usually cut off points are chosen because of driver limitations, optimal operating ranges, cabinet trade offs, porting, etc. So while low end response is extended, it's hard to believe there aren't other trade offs happening.

Has any loudspeaker company told their customers not to use SAM?

Re: Very interesting - Devialet's speaker measurements.

I would expect that major speaker manufacturers have as much access to measuring tools as Devialet, but then again they are restericted to configure them for general amp matching. All Devialet is doing is tuning the signal for optimal match to their amps with DSP tech.

CH does similar in analog domain by employing full local and global feedback adjustments in the setup stage to mate the amp and speaker in a more perfect union.
