So gave Jeff a call today to talk about the two phono stages he offered to send me to demo. Well, you have to know a call to Jeff is never a 5 minute thing. He has such a wealth of knowledge and so easy to talk to...well...55 minutes later...lol

We talked
Cartridges
cleaning Machines
Phono stages
table speed

And know that each was laced with IN-DEPTH expertise and knowledge....

Anyway, I mentioned how my Concept was too fast and had to adjust...which led to a conversation on proper table speed which segwayed to a great album for checking speed...Steely Dan Aja ..But must be the original RCA with yellow label...LOL

So this is for Jeff - fresh off my record cleaning machine and ready for the table...

Yes I'd like to know how that works as well. I listen to that record regularly.

Well?? side one 1st cut.....

Speed was great !!

What Jeff has said was in terms of speed control..you want to be just a hair to the fast said...say 33 1/3 should really be 33.4 or 33.5..which would equate to losing a bar on strobe about every 20 revolutions. He is right.

When watching the strobe, you don't want to see it rolling toward fast but basically, ever so slowly drifting fast so that after about 20 rev, you lose one tiny little bar...takes some fine tweaking...but also by doing this, you don't get the same flutter as when it is trying to hold speed dead absolute (gee he is a smart guy..lol)

To see how this sounds, he recommended Steely Dan Aja album, side one, cut one (PEG) but must be the original 1977 RCA copy...

LOL....Jeff, you are something !!! Thanks

Listen to side one 1st cut (Black Cow).....I'm talking about wow and flutter which are changes in pitch, caused by changes in speed. Flutter is high pitched, wow is low pitched.
