I wonder if it will get the same result from someone using their phone as a gps?

Re: Hopefully No One Here Does!

According to the article, it detects texts, not phone calls. I'm for whatever works to get those drivers to stop texting while driving.

I remember an accident I saw last year where the car in front of me slammed into another car pulling out of the strip mall, hard. I realized later that I didn't see any brake lights right before the accident. I thought he must've been texting...

As a cyclist, I hope this gadget really works.

Re: Hopefully No One Here Does!

My daughter in law is still having major back issues from a girl slamming into her while she was sitting at a red light. The girl claims she was not texting but was picking her phone up off the floor. She did not even slow down before barreling into our daughter in laws car.... and if she was not using her phone why would she have dropped it on the floor. Anyway, two years later and Kassie is still dealing with issues.

I wish the hell they could stop these stupid kids (mainly) from using their phones while driving.

I drive A LOT for my business and it would amaze you at some of the things I see. The most recent one was I passed a lady who had one hand up with a cigarette and the other with her phone to her ear. Look mom no hands! Needless to say I drive very defensively.

I hope the police catch 1000's of those people that text will driving. And while their at it, fine them more than $30.00 for the first offense (FLA) . How about $1000 for the first and 6 points on their license, with a 4 year probation period. .

+1 I got hit while walking on the sidewalk years ago as a driver pulled out of a parking lot while talking on the cell phone. He clipped me with his fender, knocking me down. He didn't even notice as he continued down the road with the phone to his ear. Luckily I wasn't seriously hurt but he could have driven right over me without even noticing. Too many self absorbed idiots on the road.

Chris - I've seen people typing on a laptop going down the road. I notice it's really the younger drivers doing it most, but I've seen people of all ages too.

Re: Hopefully No One Here Does!

Well its not just texting or talking on a cell phone it has to do with people so caught up with themselves they forget about others. Case in point, when I worked I lived 3 miles from my office. Each day while going to work I would observe a women in a car, smoking a cig, while she attempted to put her makeup using the mirror, speed limit 45. This went on for miles until I turned off. Years later on my way to work, this same women had rear ended a school bus, lip stick smeared across her face, makeup all over the floorboard she told the officer that it wasn't her fault. OF course the judge saw otherwise.

Some drivers have no regard for the life's of others as they text away, reading the newspaper on the way to work or women putting on makeup while driving, to people wrapped up eating that sausage biscuit while driving.
