Using DSP (convolution) filters with Roon

I have been using DSP (convolution) filters with Roon for several years now. Since I recently added a couple of acoustic panels to my room and repositioned my speakers, I needed to develop new filters.

Using a calibrated microphone and REW software, I measured the room/speaker interaction. Rather than developing the filters myself, I sent the measurements to Home Audio Fidelity (HAF) for them to create the convolution filters for me.

The result is a clearly noticeable improvement in the sound. Better presentation, wider soundstage, better delineation of the instruments and performers, etc etc.

Before spending money on expensive cables or power cords, or going crazy with room treatments, give convolution filters a try. Not only will you get better sound from your system but you will also save tons of money. Highly recommended.

Re: Using DSP (convolution) filters with Roon

Earlier this week, an audiophile friend and Roon user expressed an interest in trying out convolution filters. He owns a very nice system and has invested thousands in power cords, interconnects, and speaker cables. I worked with him to get the speaker/room measurements (his speakers are Sonus Farber Lilium). He then sent the data and two test tracks to HAF. He just received the two modified tracks back. In his words: the speakers have truly disappeared; the soundstage is now wider, taller, and uniform; the instruments are better defined in the space; and the sound is much clearer (no smearing/blur). He was amazed that for a fraction of the cost of just one of his power cords, he could get such an improvement in the sound. Bottom line: for just a couple hundred dollars you can put technology to work for you and then let your ears decide.
