Roon question re: my library vs with/without Tidal ....

I like Roon but sometimes I get too much. Can I show ONLY my library WITHOUT showing Tidal? I don't want to disable Tidal. I just want to browse each separately sometimes. I can't seem to find the answer to that.

    Thanks!

Hey Joe, I don't use Tidal but I am curious if you can enable and disable services such as Tidal like you can with Storage folders. If so then this would be one way to do it.

    Hi Randy,

I had no idea that was possible. Hmmm. That's an idea. I need to learn how to do it.

Re: Roon question re: my library vs with/without Tidal ....

For folders you go to settings/storage and you can right click a folder and enable/disable/remove. This allows you to keep different versions of albums, etc. For example all my PCM downloads I have converted to DSD in a separate folder. I can enable and disable to the folders if I want to compare the original download versus the DSD converted version.

I do not know if this can be done with services such as Tidal, but if so.....

I'm told it can be done and Roon is very powerful. I'm looking forward to speaking with a friend who's well versed on Roon.

I don't pretend to be a Roon expert, but I do use it with my local library & with Tidal. Looking at the settings, I don't see an easy way to switch Tidal on and off without deleting the login information. However, it may be one of those Roon things hidden as an inconspicuous icon somewhere.

    Hi Mike,

That's my dilemma. I am told it can be done. So hopefully I'll find out soon.

As for Tidal music on Roon, I think this tool could help you maybe. It is DRmare Tidal Music Streamer, which supports to convert Tidal audios to local files onto your computer and then you can transfer them to your Roon for offline using anytime with ease. Hope it will meet your needs.

    Thanks!
Roon can do that for you. Here is how to do this.

    1. Select Albums in Roon.
    2. Then click of "Focus"
    3. Then click on "Format"
    4. Select "TIDAL"
    5. Exit Focus and go back to the main screen. (You can just double click on the main screen to get out of "Focus").
    6. On the top of the screen, you will see a green rectangle that says "+ Tidal". What you see below is your entire list of Tidal Albums in your library. This is the opposite of what you want.
    7. So click on the "+ Tidal" green rectangle to change it (toggle) to a red rectangle that reads
"- Tidal". Now your screen shows the albums that you want: ALL the albums in your library that are NOT TIDAL (the "-" symbols means minus).

Next, create a Bookmark by clicking on the Bookmark icon (top-right of the screen) and create a new Bookmark that you can name, say, "NOT TIDAL". And you are done.

Now, every-time that you want to see your library without TIDAL albums, just select the "NOT TIDAL" Bookmark.

The nice thing about using bookmarks is that if you add more Tidal albums to your library, those Tidal albums are automatically excluded from the bookmarked selection. Likewise, any non-Tidal album added to your library will automatically show up. In other words, your bookmarked selections are always up-to-date.

You can use the "Focus" tools in many ways. Here are some other examples:
    - Albums by any performer or group of performers. I like music of John Coltrane, but he performed with different groups throughout his life. If you search "John Coltrane" with Roon using the magnifying glass, Roon will give you options like "John Coltrane Quartet", "John Coltrane Quintet", "John Coltrane Sextet". However many albums where he played (not as a leader) are excluded. If you use "Focus" instead and select music by a Performer (John Coltrane in my example), ALL albums where JC played will automatically show (that includes albums where he is NOT the main artists). If you create a bookmark of that search, then ALL of the albums where JC played are one click away. And yes, they are updated in real-time.
    - Create a bookmark of the music of a particular composer. Same idea.
    ETC.

PS. A suggestion on using Focus/Bookmarks vs. Magnifying Glass:
-Use the magnifying glass to find music from outside sources and then add it to your library.
-Use Focus/Bookmarks to get easy and fast access to music already in your library.

Re: Roon question re: my library vs with/without Tidal ....

I'm able to enable/disable Qobuz independently of login/logout. But my understanding is you should use Focus to do things like you're asking and then bookmark it like nicoff described. But I don't find Focus and bookmarks to be very user-friendly because they're not only about the content but also the presentation. It mixes the two things together which is a poor design.

I asked about being able to associate "locations" with profiles, which would make it easy to do things like create a profile containing only music for one person versus another (or one storage location versus another, or one type versus another) while then still being able to use all of the regular navigational features and views directly, but the reply I received from Roon was to use Focus.

Re: Roon question re: my library vs with/without Tidal ....

my Roon 'start' interface segregates 'albums' and 'artists' of my own files, from 'Tidal' and from 'Quboz'. i have to go into Tidal or Quboz separately. it's my start place with Roon. maybe you need to configure your start point differently? i've never seen it look any different.

my searches include any title from all three. or i can click on 'versions' within any title from any of the categories and see all places and formats i can choose from.

or as nicoff mentions above, i can use 'focus' to select any format (bit depth or sampling rate) to segregate.

so i guess i'm confused about not being able to isolate titles from Tidal and one's own hard drives.

I am not sure that I understand the question. But here is my understanding of how Roon works with Tidal/Qobuz.

When one adds an album from Tidal or Qobuz to a Roon library, Roon indexes the album. However, the album itself is not downloaded to your computer or hard drive, those albums remain in the cloud. Thats why you can not isolate those albums/files in your Hardrive.

The Roon library is made up of indexed files. Some of those indexed files are from your own music (the ones ripped or downloaded and kept in Hardrives or NAS), and others are files stored in the cloud (Tidal/Qobuz).
