Everything working well for me with an Intel NUC connected via ethernet to a Node 2. Had one drop out last week that a reboot of the NUC solved and nothing else since.

One thing / rule I standby and follow is to disable auto updates (in pretty much any application). Unless there is some glaring bug et al or must have functionality you don't need to be on the latest and greatest EVER. I have not had issues and am on the latest major rev but not the latest service pack of ROON.

On the server/core, go into options and disable the auto update for both the core and controllers, that should be default setting!! When a major rev is installed you have to remember to set that again right away.

When new revs (minor/service packs) come out (you'll get notified when you fire up ROON on your controller), just close the message/dialog and continue with you listening session. When I see a notification of a new rev, I'll go to the ROON site and read about the fixes/change log and see if it offers anything of significance. If I have been crashing / hang ups (rarely if ever does that happen) I would pursue an update. This way you can monitor and follow the rev in question to see what problems others are running into.

Again, most of the time the incremental updates don't "usually" offer anything that is critically needed (e.g. "fixed android stability"). Rule of thumb for me is to stay 2-3 sp's back of the latest and monitor the change log to see when its good to update. If everything is running and stable leave it alone unless there is a need to update. This isn't a ROON thing, it's all software on any platform. My $.02.

That’s how my setup is wired also. I had an electrician install a CAT 8 cable from the cable modem to my stereo room with a wall jack next to my digital gear rack. The wall jack connects to my Netgear router via a CAT 8 cable. Both my Nucleus+ and my PS Audio DSJ connect to the Netgear router via CAT cables. Roon has run without issues on this setup.

I was wondering if people who are having issues were the same people who were competing to have the most complex digital setups and the largest number of digital dingleberries in the signal path. Mike said Roon was having issues both at home and in his store with straightforward wiring so I don’t know why some people have no issues while others are having problems.

I have been using ROCK in an Intel i5 NUC. It has been rock steady for several months now. It ran smoothly on a NAS previously.

Optical ethernet to an etherRegen - copper an A side to the NUC, - copper from B side to streamer. I’m done until something better comes out (within reason of course, I refuse to spend silly $ on networking, I already spent too much ��)

Further to all these helpful messages about how Roon problems are probably the power supply, cables, or some other user-created issue, my faulty Nucleus Plus finally went back to Roon for a diagnosis. It took four months of wasted time and aggravation convincing Roon that it wasn't any of the former, or a software issue, and I believe I would still be fighting with them and stuck with a defective unit if Mike had not intervened on my behalf.

Thank you again, Mike, for being such an exemplar for other audio dealers.

Roon, at first, said they could not duplicate my issues. Typical. But, thank goodness they persevered and continued to test, because my unit did crash, as usual, and they found a defective chip on a board, which they say they will repair before returning the unit to me.

So if, like me, you don't want to waste months of time arguing with a software company over why they don't provide better support for their hardware, please buy anything other than a Nucleus or Nucleus Plus to run Roon. I still love the software, and I may even learn to enjoy the hardware, but I would never buy another piece of hardware from Roon.

My Nucleus+ died- it would not power up. After a few days of back and forth with Roon Support while I did their requested trouble shooting, they emailed me a return shipping label. After a 3 days at Roon, they shipped it back, with no charge, even though I was not the original purchaser. No problems since. I would rate Roon 10/10 for customer service.

The proposition of Nucleus, according to Roon COO, is that some audio customers need a turnkey Roon solution that can be purchased from audio dealers, because they need someone to setup the Roon Core computer for them. It is public information that Nucleus is a 7th generation NUC, with a custom fanless chassis, along with Nucleus edition of Roon OS software that is tuned for fanless operation and adds a few automation features.

For Roon users who are capable of dealing with computers, the standard Roon OS software ROCK is free (but you still need a Roon license for it). That's why I always tell people to use a NUC8i7BEH with fanless chassis to run ROCK.

I still love my Roon Nucleus Plus. It sounds amazing, I have had minimal glitches since I purchased it almost two years ago, it works perfectly with the MSB Renderer V2 and Pro USB Modules and it has plenty of computer power and memory to handle my large music catalog. And it cost a fraction of some of these other audiophile servers. What more could I ask for?

“the Nucleus+“ is an indicator to me based on some past experience. I’ve went the NUC/Linux route and it has been very stable.

It can be a good idea to run MemTest86 on any computer if not sourcing your hardware from a vendor that already does that for you, or if changing RAM modules. If you purchase RAM direct, it's better to order from one of the super-reliable reputable manufacturers or brands. There are reputable manufacturers and brands that unfortunately have less reliable RAM.
