Re: Radio paradise mqa audio coming exclusively to bluos players

Thanks for that. I occasionally listen to Paradise Radio. I find the selection rather inconsistant and there's no Classical Mix, so I find myself listening far more to Classic FM as daytime background music.

The link you provided didn't specify any fee for this new MQA service. I'll certainly not subscribe but I'll take a fresh listen if it's available without cost via my BluOS / NAD system. Peter
Sources - NAD M50.2 (streamer, CD player, CD ripper, hard drive music store)
    Amplification - NAD M33 all-in-one, NAD M12 preamp (in reserve), Atma-Sphere Class D monos
Speakers - Avantgarde Duo XD, Avantgarde Duo (2006) - both aesthetically modified

Radio Paradise works on donations. I enjoy the mellow mix channel. I do contribute because I enjoy the selection. Hopefully an MQA enhancement might help. I like where this is going and hopefully more stations come on board.

Re: Radio paradise mqa audio coming exclusively to bluos players

Being a donation-only station, I assume that the MQA people are likely offering it for free and hoping that listeners buy into switching to MQA-enabled systems (who actually pay MQA). Not a bad idea,
But I am wondering if this Is just pure marketing since they broadcast at 320k. So what good is MQA going to do?

Re: Radio paradise mqa audio coming exclusively to bluos players

With the right setup now, I think it can actually sound really good. I am able to just enjoy the music without thinking about the sound quality. If MQA can offer even a little better experience, I’ll be ecstatic.

That’s the issue right now. I’m not using a blueos streamer. I’m looking now for what’s available. I have a Wyred for Sound modified connect and Port. They are wonderful. Now I need to look at blueos.

You have just validated MQA’s thought process: you need to buy a BluOS device to take advantage of MQA and BluOS pays a fee to MQA. Just following the money...

I stream the flac version through Sonos. It sounds pretty good to me.

But Sonos does not give you MQA. So what you are listening to is (perhaps) an equalized version of the song but not MQA. Maybe what MQA is doing is a simple algorithm that goes like this: A) are you playing through BluOS? If yes, then send MQA file; if not, send an EQ’d version.
So you may be right in hearing something “different”, but you are not hearing MQA.

I FULLY realize I am no where near MQA at this point with Radio Paradise. I absolutely do enjoy what I'm hearing now.

I plan on buying a bluesound or blueos capable streamer (MQA capable, of course). I'm looking at the options now. Even if it's not terribly expensive, I'm will to experiment.

Re: Radio paradise mqa audio coming exclusively to bluos players

I don't know how reliable this is, but Bluesound had a sale around last October/November where they were selling the Node 2i at a hundred bucks off and the thought was it might be to clear stock for a new model. The Node 2i went back up to regular price where it's stayed for the last 4 months, though.

I wish there was a more audiophile version of the Node - I wound up comparing to my Lumin and the improvement with the Lumin was irrefutable to me; that said, I never ever felt like I was missing anything with the Node in the absence of a direct comparison. And I like the Blue OS software compared to the Lumin.
