JAPRS Reference Recording for Hi Res Format Comparison

Seeing the discussions on DSD on other threads, I thought it would be interesting for those on here who would like to see for themselves the difference between PCM and DSD on their own setups. I have to credit forum member Bunpei over at CA for bringing these files to my attention.

In a joint technical seminar conducted by NHK (Nippon Hoso Kyokai: Japan Broadcasting Corporation) and JAPRS (Japan Association of Professional Recording Studios) - six audio source files in six different formats, PCM 48kHz/16bit, 96kHz/24bit, 192kHz/24bit, 384kHz/32bit(float), DSD 5.6MHz and DSD 11.2MHz were created from a single play of "Orfeu Negro" by a Japanese Trio consisting of, Sax: Y. Tomakomachi, Piano: M. Ishizuka and Percussion: S. Ishikawa. Recording engineer was Mr. H. Takada of Victor Entertainment, Chairman of the Technical Committee of Japan Association of Professional Recording Studios (JAPRS).

The files were prepared by capturing an identical analog output signal of the API console of CR-506 studio of NHK with six DAWs, Avid ProTools for PCM 48kHz, 96kHz, 192 kHz and Merging Pyramix/Horus for 384kHz/32bit, DSD 5.6MHz, DSD 11.2MHz simultaneously.

The purpose of the release of the sources is to provide "a kind of reference of standard sources" for professional engineers to recognize actual differences on sound characteristic depending on formats.

    DSD128 File

    PCM Files (PCM 48kHz, 96kHz, 192 kHz)

Note: For those new to downloading large files such as these, I would recommend using a file download manager in place of your browser download manager. I use http://www.freedownloadmanager.org/

    References:
The files were released on a DVD from the Japanese professional sound publication PROSOUND August 2015 issue.

    PCM Files (PCM 48kHz, 96kHz, 192 kHz)

Edit: The file includes the 384kHz/32bit file as well.

Has anybody taken a stab at these files? Would be interesting to hear some feedback.

Hi, just wondering if the different format files are still available? None of the links seem to work any more. Thanks.
