Amazon Music

CD quality and HD tracks for only $12.99 for Amazon Prime users... Oh boy... Tidal and Qobuz better watch out.
I doubt that Amazon will work with Roon so for now I am sticking with Roon/Tidal.
However, I can foresee new lines of Amazon Alexa devices that will compete with the likes of Sonos.

It is all about content and service. Let’s see if they offer more than a rich man’s version of Apple Music.

According to the article...
- Over 50 million CD Quality
- "Millions" of songs it’s calling “Ultra HD,” which translates to 24-bit with sample rates that range from 44.1kHz up to 192kHz.

As far as I know, Apple Music has zero CD quality or HD quality as of today.

Obviously.

By “rich man’s”, I mean that Amazon is offering hi-Rez streaming as opposed to Apple. By “version”, I mean Apple’s practice of using its streaming platform to aggressively sell downloads. It remains to be seen how much Amazon will dedicate itself to hi-Rez streaming when there are still CDs and downloads to sell.

I'm not streaming from a laptop ever again. Owning the Aurender N10 and N100H music servers has completely spoiled me for better sound quality. When and if Amazon can be streamed through Aurender's Conductor app like Tidal and Qobuz, then and only then would I consider it. The price is enticing, especially for us Prime members. Perhaps that will pressure Tidal and Qobuz to reduce their monthly subscription fees for their premium tiers, although my guess is that will be unlikely.

I log many more hours listening to my own personal music library than to Tidal. Sure, there's interesting music to discover from streaming services, unfortunately there's far more crap masquerading as music that I don't have time or desire to wade through. Streaming is okay, but it isn't my primary access to music content. Even though Tidal lured me back with the 3 months for $9.99 deal, I am now back to paying $19.99 and once again considering canceling the service. Access to their library is one thing, but actually using it is another.

It is highly unlikely that Amazon will allow Roon to integrate their offerings with our files so no matter what the price is I will stick with Roon/Tidal.

I’m a Tidal user but welcome competition from Amazon. As mentioned earlier, there could well be pricing pressure which would lower costs to consumers regardless of which service they utilize.

Already signed up and listening, perfect for me :)
Qobuz will probably be on the chopping block in a month barring anything negative with Amazon. Already a Prime member.

The ONLY thing keeping me from jumping ship from Tidal to Amazon is Roon.

I wonder if LUMIN has plans to integrate Amazon Music into their software.

How many of these streaming services do we need, especially when they all offer different artists. If there was one service that offered all songs in at least CD quality then I might try it, but as of now I will continue to buy CDs and download high-res files. I already have more music than I can ever listen to.

I dumped Tidal and kept Qobuz. I may dump Roon too and go with JRiver. Roon is a lot of money to allow me to listen to what I already own. I play Qobuz with their app.
I will probably try Amazon as I have Prime for my business.
I guess having a server such as mine is a benefit as I can play any source I want. I'm not limited by the manufacturer software. This may become a larger issue for Aurender, Lumin etc. If enough turn over in the market starts limiting their customers access to content, they will be forced to adapt or loose sales.

Roon is my interface to my library. HQPlayer is pretty cumbersome. JRiver is pretty decent for file management/playback such as Roon is. I don't do anything else with Roon so I may leave it.
But this thread is really about Amazon and I'm happy my pretty darn good server allows me the flexibility to try new products.

Amen to that Brother! Yes there is an abundance of material available for listen but the bottom line is sound quality.
I have NO desire to drop down the streaming "rabbit hole" spending thousands of dollars chasing an abundance of services, well hyped exotic cables, power supplies etc etc for sound that may be as good as a CD as long as "Jupiter aligns with Mars On a Clear Day."
Have a listen where-ever on what-ever, you like? Then buy and rip. Case Closed.

Spoken from my ears on my humble sound machine. Your Mileage Will Vary!

A few folks express that they already have big libraries and do not need anything else. I feel like I have a decent library of CDs, LPs and even tapes. And yes I could listen to that same library for a LONG time. But to me that's like "I got plenty of books already I don't need to read new stuff".
Exploring new stuff (music, books, etc.) keeps it interesting and keeps you alive.

nicoff.......I am not saying I don't enjoy new music. I am always on the lookout for music that fits my personal interests. Streaming has its place, but for me it is not a primary source. With streaming services there's a lot of warts to avoid trying to discover the gems. I find it valuable as a source for auditioning new music that I may wish to purchase.

I enjoy the playlists from Amazon in particular the work out playlists and others when I drive such as the best of the 60’s,70’s, 80’s and90’s . These playlists are like commercial free radio stations unlike Pandora you can skip as many songs as you like. I know this is sacrilege on a audiophile forum but in the car or with AirPods when I’m exercising HD is not part of the deal anyway. Non MQA based HD music for such a great price that allows free downloads with the service has my money.
