I'm trying to clean up my system and need some cables as short as 6". I currently am using monoprice cables as they have 18" and already found 1 that was bad and may have another as the system has occasional cut outs. Should I just make my own and if so what parts would you recommend?

Blue Jeans Cable will custom make RCA cables to your desired length.

Second the BlueJeans Cable recommendation. I've found their cables more than serviceable, and at reasonable prices. The Belden cable stock is the same as you might find in a professional stage rig, the connectors and construction are good quality, and for a 6" length, there's barely enough cable there for it to impart much character even if it's not uber-audiophile grade stuff.

I'm leaning towards making my own. I don't want to break the bank but want decent products..Recomendations?

Bluejeans cable company is a local company and I'm happy to support them. If their quality wasn't worth the money I wouldn't buy again. I'd second or third going with them.

When you have 2 dbx 1.75" rack mount units together in the rack 6" is perfect. I have decided to build my own cables and bought 200 feet of Belden 1505F. Any recommendations on male RCA and 1/4" TRS connectors would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, TJ

Funny you should recommend that. I just bought 44 RCA male connectors and 14 1/4" TRS connectors from them this AM. I also have 200 feet of Belden 1505F on the way.

Thanks for the help and recommendation - TJ

Judging by the products they sell, their main market must be home theater system installers. Crimping tools cost a lot for a DIY audio system. And it's not what pro-audio people need.
I think every custom installer probably gets their components from one of their regional/local custom installer distributors, who carry much more than just one or two brands of bulk cable and connectors.

I just finished building 7 cables between the pre-amp, 5 processors, and the active crossover. I used Belden 1505F cable and Canare RCA/TRS connectors. WOW what a difference. Unbelievable! And I haven't even gotten to the power amp rack, or the inputs to the pre-amp yet. I'm hearing mixing mistakes and notes I've never heard before. I thought it was BS spending big $ on cables but paid the price with Monoprice cables. Count me as a convert!

Welcome to the fold. One of my audio epiphanies was good cables (along with MC carts & use of a SUT). Thankfully, long ago.
Any of the 'known-good' cable makers (WW, Kimber, DHLabs, etc.) will make up their cables for you in the 0.5m or any other length you want. Most will deal with you direct if you wish to cut out the middleman. The downside is some of the middlemen may give you a better price.
