    Shunyata power cables

I'm about to buy the Shunyata Anaconda Power Cables for my ARC REF 250's and the Cobras for my ARC DS450M's. Is it a general consensus that those are some of the best power cables? I'd love to do all Anacondas....but the budget got in the way! Plus, I'm not convinced digital amps just driving the bass really need Anacondas.

    Thoughts?

Mike... Besides these, the only others I would try are Jeff's. Howard (hkval) said they blew away his Wireworld pc's!

Thanks! If I didn't get such a nice discount on Shunyata, I would be all over Jeff's cables. I've heard they are great!

    Re: Shunyata power cables

    Mike,

I have one Anaconda connect to my Rowand amp. The effect on the music is amazing! All that grunge and hash seems to have gone to zilch. Because of that, I can hear deeper and more sharply into the soundstage than ever before. Low level music is easily heard now. I am really enjoying the PC and would highly recommend it. One of the best investments I made IMO!

    HTH!

    Re: Shunyata power cables

I am a Shunyata fanboy because every time I added a power cable the sound quality improved. My power cord trip started with Pangea cords on everything but the amps. They required 20 amp connectors and Pangea did not offer that. Later I bought two Shunyata Vipers at $125 each with 20 amp connectors and was floored by how much better the sound improved. After a couple of weeks I thought if the $125 cables can do this then what can better cables do. So I ordered two Shunyata Python CX cables at $1200 each, and they are still in place since they work so good. After that I replaced my speaker cables with the Ztron Anaconda, all the Pangea cables with Ztron Cobra, added a Triton power conditioner, and a Ztron Python to feed the Triton.

I just ordered a Hydra AV for the HT, and a Ztron Anaconda to replace the Python, which will move to the Hydra AV. I cannot give Shunyata enough praise for what they have done. It is amazing, and I used to be a power cord sceptic.

As an engineer, I understand what they have accomplished by inventing DTCD for measuring power cords. Hear me now, and believe me later. It works.

It sure is nice to add a link.

Well, it appears I need 10 posts to add a link to Shunyata. Oh well, I will be there soon enough.

    Re: Shunyata power cables

Shunyata power cords are pretty dang good. The worst thing about them is that they are very addictive. After you hear what they do you just want to get them on everything.

Don't under estimate what they will do for the base amps. The entire speaker will be more coherent.

They do take forever to fully break-in. Powering a fan for a week helps immensely before you use it on your equipment..

Every person that I know that has gone the path of all things Zitron have been very smug zealots indeed. I have the Zitron Cobra pc's on all my gear, they offer better resolution, timing, detail & more. To me the easy way of explaining them are that they are the extra 5% over those things that mum used to wrap around my backside!!

I been scanning the used market for power cables.
Alot of nice ones out there used for a good price .
    Especially shunyatas .
I see Mikes ad for electras too on audiogon. Hmmmm.
I'm not sure if I should buy used or just get some furutech a from
    Jeff. Tough decision.
Wouldn't it be nice if equip companies charged a little more and gave you a good power cable that was voiced for that piece of gear. Would make life much easier.

Some do. The DAC2X came with a great PC. The silver electras have already had two offers. Don't wait too long! My WW Electra sp cables sold in record time (for my asking price).

Shunyata are at the top for sure Mike and that is what ARC used to use exclusively in house and when demoing their products at shows. However, they have been replaced by PCs from Sain (read the Stereophile Ref 150 review). Something to consider and maybe try out in a shoot out against Shunyata. I am still using Shunyata Python PC and Hydra conditioner, so I am a fan of Shunyata.

Mike, As you know, I've tried all of the Zitrons. I would suggest using Anacondas only on power amps and a conditioner if you use one. I'd suggest Pythons for preamps and maybe a CD/DAC. You can get very good results with Cobras on low current items like tuners etc. One thing to be VERY aware of. The break in process for the Annacondas is BRUTAL. I really think the Python is the sweet spot of the line. Let us know!

When budget permits, I'm all in. Next up is the outlets. I'd like to hear from folks who have upgraded their AC outlets to audiophile quality. MIT? Shunyata? Furutech? Etc.

I'm using the Shunyata outlets and yes they make a positive improvement. But, I have not compared them to the other ones plus I've never heard anything bad about the other outlets.

    Mike,

I ordered Furutechs from Jeff for the new room. Haven't installed them yet, but here's PFO's feedback on them.

Stereophile had a more lukewarm reception to them so as usu, YMMV.

    Re: Shunyata power cables

I added the Shunyata outlet to my system, but since it was part of a major upgrade (Triton, and 5 Ztron power cables) I can't comment on any improvement attributible to it. However, it is a secure outlet, and really grabs the plug. The whole upgrade was like getting better gear it was such a great improvement.

The easiest way to break in a power cord is to get an adaptor from Music Direct and connect it to a refrigerator for a month or so.

You can also get them from amazon for 1/3 the price. The adapters are a must when playing around power cords because of the break-in time periods.

    Re: Shunyata power cables

High-end audio electronic manufacturers should always recommend (or supply) the perfect interconnects (or power cables, or speaker cables) with their products.

Not good for their business? ...Good for the customers?

    ________________

Charlie: I just bought a new pair of interconnects ("Aqua Via") today at half price; I only paid $22,000.

Frank: I've just heard that the new "Sprinklers" interconnects are even better for only $11,000/pair (1 meter).

Charlie: Mmmm, I'd better get my act together.

I have some doubts. Easiest but not very efficient. The refrigerator works on 50Hz (very few cycle transitions per second) and has a very low duty cycle as it is non operating most of the time. I think that a good cable cooker, working at higher variable frequency with a moderate current continuously will do a better job. But cable burn-in is black magic and I have no prove of my belief.

Still TBD. I'm waiting on a few things to sell first. I'm going to be testing some Tara Labs PC's next week. My dealer says they better the Shunyata's (he sells both) and they are a fraction of the cost. Failing that, I want to try Jeff's power cable porn.

I've only placed one order with Jeff and talked to him only a few times but after seeing the kind of service he delivers, I would give him my business any day. I would be very interested in how his cables compare to the bigger name ones.

I know this is going to sound crazy, but I sold 9 WW Silver Electra PC's last week. Pulled them all from my system and replaced them with the stock PC's. And guess what? My system has never sounded better!

Basically, you are saying WW Silver Electra power cords suck, at least in your system. Which is fine. Wait until you add Shunyata Ztron cables. You will be amazed at how much better it is.

I have the regular old WW Eclipse downstairs and they are great. Maybe its just the silver I don't like - even subconsciously! I've just never liked silver anything on my system. The regular WW Eclipse (all copper) sound really good. PC's, IC's and Sp cables.
