Loudspeakercables (12x) Blindtest, measurements, music samples

Last weekend a large speakercable test was done (12 cables), I listened in with headphones (youtube) and was able to hear differences between the cables. Was nice to see that some differences can be backed up by the measurements.

Curious how you tested Speaker Cables using Headphones? Maybe it's the Translation?

The stream is still on youtube but it is a long session, better to use the samples on the website for a quick listen.

    This is just me, but.

I don't understand how you can use YouTube or any other internet video source, listen to it through a laptop or computer only and make critical decisions on the sound of audio equipment.

I understand he is using head phones and maybe that makes a world of difference.

I don't think we can udge differences from a you tube video, but if you can actually hear them, well it's still a matter of debate many deny.

Re: Loudspeakercables (12x) Blindtest, measurements, music samples

I belong to some music forums and share a lot of things from YouTube. If the difference is noticeable you should be able to hear it on YouTube but not to the extent as in real life.

I can hear differences in sound quality of songs just through my phone, headphones is even better.

Due to the various ways to listen and sources I'd say people's results would very wildly.

Re: Loudspeakercables (12x) Blindtest, measurements, music samples

Differences were definitly there when listening through headphones (Audeze LCD-X with Chord Hugo and laptop), listening to youtube over speakers (to other systems recorded by microphone) doesn't work IMO, that way you basically listening to two different room acoustics on top of each other.

Alpha audio uses some good equipment to record their "reference" system, off course listening over youtube is not same as being in the test room, over my headphones it is difficult (better say imposible) to say anything regarding soundstage, depth and height, but in most other parts I could hear differences between the cables.

Before seeing the results, I preferred the van den Hul and Shunyata options, both belong to the top of the list of the measurements Alpha audio made.

I was planning to only listen in for half an hour, but in the end I listened till the end, I will not go and order new speakercables now, but I did enjoy the effort that Alpha audio put into the test.

Same camera for each listen, it's consistent, what's your point? If the configuration was the same for each cable and a difference heard, then there's a difference.

I heard few samples in Alpha-Audio. I think "6. JvG M.L Reference" is close to original sound.

    +1.

Mr. Audiophile Junkie (Youtube ID) recorded many rooms on audio shows with a same video machine. I can hear different sounds of each rooms through his videos.

Human ears are very biased. Ours ears hear a same sound differently and instantly when our brain is influenced any reason. Our ears become protective mode (become dull and insensitive) quickly when they hear bad or hurting sounds.

Microphone is the best way to hear an audio system. The microphone records always same way unlike human ears do. An audio system can sounds good to the owner but it can sounds bad to other people because the owner's ears are used (and adjusted) to his system. A microphone whether cheap or expensive will record same way always.

Interesting that this a dealer/distributor for many of the brands tested. But, omitting a full loom on the signal path (Interconnects + Speaker Cables) is of course IMHO chasing one’s tail.

Would be curious if there will be part 2 with the same brand/level interconnect from the source to the speaker cable.

You said a microphone cheap or not records the same way. What part of the camera would you say records the sound that accompanies the video?

I'm not familiar with that brand. You'd have to hear your brand compared to know whether an upgrade would be worth the expense.

Even if the microphone on the camera is very low quality, we can still hear the sound difference between recordings.

    Right. I agree with you.
I'm one of those who think that a video can actually give an idea of what a system worth. And no camera is going to make to sound good a system that plays badly. That's why I say the camera doesn't add anything. If it sounds good in video, the system should already be reasonably tuned.
But if there are those who don't hear (nor want to) hear differences in cables live, we can't expect them to detect it in videos.

As for the differences themselves, I don't even get into the discussion anymore. It's so obvious to me that it's not debatable. Cable do make (the) difference. And for a very logical basic reason: because the signal passes through them.
I said it before: to me there´s not possible a high end performance without good cables.
