Yeah, I’m fine with it too. Minor tweaking to fit the gear in the room perfectly, is fine by me.

It has to be fine because so many people are using cables to alter the sound coming out of their speakers. You can call cables filters, tone controls, or spices. All that really matters is that people are happy with the choices they made and they love the sound of their system(s).

so cables are a minor tweaking?

if they aren't you've got problems elsewhere ............

In some cases, more than minor.

Re: Cables? What Brand/Model do you use?
Sorry to desagree Mike but i think if we don´t achieve the most perfect transmission of the signal, we would never achieve the highest performance of the system. I would say in another words: there is no high end reprodution of sound if we compromise the signal transmission.

How is Mike wrong and please define how you achieve the “most perfect transmission of the signal”.

Re: Cables? What Brand/Model do you use?
while the units are interrupting the cables, i am convinced they can improve the sound

Well, i think Mike knows exactly what cable do. As he said here
Every once in a while...

As for the second question, it happens exactly with cables as with any other (active) element of a system. You know you achieve better performance when you hear it!

OK. Your definition of “most perfect transmission of the signal” is entirely subjective. You know it when you hear it.

That would be any cable that does not add distortion, noise or interference to the signal and does not change the frequency response of the signal.

Yes. Totally agree. The problem is all cables have some lost. And some of them are really bad. Not to mention that a good cable can be destroyed by a bad connection!

True, but for the good cables, the loss is so small that it's hard to measure.

Yep, some of the expensive cables are really bad!

Yes, connectors and contact maintenance is a bigger concern.

There ya go, agreed, not difficult at all ...............

Re: Cables? What Brand/Model do you use?
Okay!
Lett me tell you what left me deeply satisfied today.
I have an audiophile friend who started investing in audio about 2 years ago and built a system for about € 7,000 (Unison Research/Audiovector). A week ago he was willing to invest in "cables" but at the same time he was afraid (especially in power cords), and he asked me how much he should invest, and if it really worth it.
More than words, I decided to lend him one interconnect and one of my system's resident power cords.
Just a little while ago, he call me and he was absolutely euphoric saying that he already admitted that the cables could make some difference but never thought it could be so much. He said he was listening to the records he like more and know best, as if it were the first time. He even used an expression that says everything "my system came to life".
And i listened and think to myself... Yes, I´m right! :exciting::yahoo1:

That’s so awesome. I’m happy for both of you.

Re: Cables? What Brand/Model do you use?
Thank you Joeinid :hey:
Everything I wrote is true.
He called me again today to ask to stay with the cables until the next weekend because he already invited 2 friends to visit him and witness the differences!

Awesome news. I also didn’t want to believe how big a difference cables could make but now I realize that everything makes a difference.
It’s nice to see you making converts to our obsession, err hobby. :)

cables, cables and more cables....definitely more than spice :P

Re: Cables? What Brand/Model do you use?
Did I see here someone comparing cables to tone controls? If so, could someone claim that he/she does not need fancy cables just tone controls to adjust the sound to their liking?
-
Re: Cables? What Brand/Model do you use?
Tone controls give you more/less bass/treble.
Cables can optimize/compromise dynamics, transparency, detail, timbre...

So... are you saying instead that cables are more like DSP?

Nicoff
What i am saying is that the signal goes through the cables, and many things could happen in the path.
Cheers!

Re: Cables? What Brand/Model do you use?
I am no engineer, but have definitely seen what cables do. I also think, cables are system dependent and need careful matching and synergy. My biggest bang for buck (regardless of type of audio gear) has been my wonderful Silversmith fidelium speaker cables. I have tried many speaker cables, but man, these have taken my system to different level.
