Re: Why 4K TV is Stupid
For a typical tv room television, 1080P is fine but for a HT with a large screen 4K will be a plus.
I have to say, I am not a tv or HT nut [I'm not a video enthusiast], so if there was a choice and the 4K television was only 15-20% more than 1080P I would get the 4K tv, but definitely not at todays prices.Listening Room: McIntosh C46, MEN220, MCD500, MR78-Modafferi modified, MPI4, MC602 (2), Pass Labs XVR1 (three-way), tri-amplified Infinity IRS Series V, TailTwister T2X rotator, AtlasSound FMA Rack, dedicated electrical sub-panel, NO TV!

It's not stupid, it's evolution. ...Technological advancement in the service of a better moving picture quality. ...And still photography too.
* Our cameras eventually will capture 4K as well. ...If not already (pocket cameras, iPads, iPhones, ....).~ Bob ~

Re: Why 4K TV is Stupid
The Red Camera and the Hasselblad already do much MUCH better than 4K. You just have to pay for it. [I'm not talking about toy cameras in phones or el cheapo crap that have a zillion crappy pixels.] It isn't the number of pixels, it's the QUALITY of the pixels that makes a difference. It's the same with tv screens and projectors.
My first digital DSLR was the Fuji S-1 about 13 years ago, which had a three megapixel sensor that interpolated to make a 6 MP image. I will put that camera against ANY 15 or 20 MP point and shoot camera today for image quality. It's quality, NOT quantity that makes a good image.
So, the question is, does 4k make the tv or movie viewing in the home appreciably better? We know it does in theaters, but the screens there are gargantuan compared to home televisions or most HTs.

I love the Red line. If I was a serious photographer/filmmaker I would have one in a N.Y. minute. They're a little pricy for the regular Joe though. But man are they sweet!

Yes I see 'red' Gary.
BTW, some pocket cameras now have 25+MP, and 30X Optical Zoom, and cost only $299!
My cell only has 1 MP camera, but it takes beautiful pictures; it's the quality of the pixels, and the photographer's skill.~ Bob ~
