Bryston Pi Digital Player
Bryston-Pi - Pic.jpg
Little Box Big Sound
Built upon the Raspberry Pi and HifiBerry platform, the new BDP-Pi is faster and more capable than our classic BDP-1 yet fits in a chassis 1/3rd as wide as our full size gear and costs less than half of a flagship BDP-2.
Connect
Virtually any DAC can be connected via the on-boardS/PDIF and Toslink connectors. Also, get ultra high resolution by connecting a USB DAC. You can even connect audio through HDMI.
Your Music
Connect an external USB drive containing your music library, stream your favorite internet radio stations, and enjoy lossless TIDAL streaming all on the BDP-Pi

Looks interesting. Is any S/PDIF BNC? Is power supply IEC connection?

HI
NO internal drive (not enough room) - have to go to the BDP-2 for that.

I hope so but I guess I would have to leave that to our customers to decide.

Re: Bryston Pi Digital Player
Hi Folks,
Here is a picture of the Bryston Pi Digital Player internals with the modifications we have implemented:
Bryston Pi Board.JPG
Bryston Pi Mods
1. Power regulator circuit that accepts 7-14 volts, AC or DC from a 2.5mm barrel connector. This circuit also contains over voltage protection/indication and under voltage indication. Indication is provided by a rear mounted LED and the brightness can be adjusted by way of a pot mounted behind the LED.
2. Bryston output stage for a clean strong signal and impedance matching.
3. The HiFiBerry Digi+ circuit, based around the Wolfson WM8804 digital interface transceiver.
4. Peripheral connector for display, buttons and IR receiver.

Re: Bryston Pi Digital Player
Is there any update on when this will hit the streets (specifically the UK in my case), and what the RRP will be?
Thanks for any info.

Re: Bryston Pi Digital Player
Great news from Bryston one after another Mr. Tanner.
On Sound quality terms alone, where does Pi sit around bdp-1 and bdp-2?

Re: Bryston Pi Digital Player
Hi
I have not had a lot of time with the Pi yet but I would say sonically it is close to the BDP-1 and sometimes in the A-B tests I do get fooled as to which is which. It is a lot faster though so the basic day to day functions work better.

Re: Bryston Pi Digital Player
Hi James, I've no order in - a UK price would help!
I'm actually in the process of ordering a B135cubed and BDA-3 (in black - please hurry the new 135 faceplates along!) through Paul Clark (incidentally, one of the nicest chaps in the HiFi retail business I've had the pleasure to deal with ), so it may not be a possibility to add a BDP of any sort to the budget right now. However, I am potentially interested in the BDP-Pi, or alternatively I might save for longer and hope a BDP-3 is in the offing?Last edited by Whaleblue; May 11, 2016 at 11:13 AM. Reason: typos

Re: Bryston Pi Digital Player
Hi James:
I wanted to let you know that I've purchased a BDP-PI (Serial # 00048) from the AudioShop in Kanata. This unit is to replace my Squeezebox 3 system.
First impressions: Sound is amazing. I've hooked this up using the coaxial digital output to my Anthem MRX receiver/Bryston 4BST mains. The one work that comes us to describe the change is "clarity".?
My thanks!

Bryston Pi Digital Player
Just to make a nice point I'll be a real jerk and say that I have a 100K+ system with Gryphon Pandora, Mephisto, Kaliope and Magico Q3 speakers.
BUT I still use and love my BDP-1 which is even cheaper than my digital cable (jerk v.2.0). Tried most of the competitors, computer based systems, cd transports. Each had its advantages but only the BDP-1 played it RIGHT all around. My audiophile friends wonder why I don't use a fancier thing but why get into trouble if it works.
I know bdp-2 plays even better and plan to buy it time to time but then I forget all about it because bdp-1 JUST works.

I wish to extend my thanks and appreciation in getting the streaming feature working for the Squeezelite service.
I am putting the system through its paces now and am really pleased with what I am hearing.

I have been enjoying my PI for about a week and must confess it exceeded my expectations. I run it straight into a 135 integrated and use a wd passport for storage. Those songs I ripped from either CD or Blu-Ray sound fantastic and most Itunes tracks sound good as well. Only some unknown vintage mp3 files sound muddy and compressed. The web UI works well enough though I have not started really using saved playlists.
Better documentation on using MM with the PI would be appreciated. The guide I have is for the BDP-2 and not as useful as it can be.
Kudos to Bryston for a really excellent product which has allowed me to consolidate my music into one repository. Well done!
Hi Fly Over Guy
Glad you are enjoying the Pi - it has been a huge hit for us and I think accomplishes what we hoped it would - namely to allow state of the art digital playback at a very reasonable price. :thumb:

Re: Bryston Pi Digital Player
Yesterday I received my Bryston BDP-Ï€ serial #98 and the set-up was very straight forward, easy to install on my network and loads my massive library quickly.
Being a new unit, I assumed it had the latest firmware and checked - there was an update! The update was applied and all is well!
I'm a very pleased customer!

Re: Bryston Pi Digital Player
Dear, Brian, dear James,
We have first excellent review about new BDP-PI in Germany in the magazine for digital HiFi „Einsnull“
Have nice weekend!
Best regards
Edvard
I have a full PDF review in German if anyone wants a copy - jamestanner@bryston.com
james
Some Quotes in English:
Bryston's BDP Pi is a lot more than a mere digial player, Because the flexibl and userfriendly hardware is fully adjustable to the user in terms of formats, resolution, and control. Despite this, the high standards of the "Canadians" in respect of built quality and sound quality remain fully in place also with in their smallest addition to their family so far !
The PI perfectly processes the full range of high res- as well as compressed audio formats via its SPDIF, HDMI or USB inputs, and any external DAC can be attached. Together with the optical drive BOT1 and a suitable DAC such as the BDA3. The PI can provide a fully fledged music server solution, including ripping function, which, thanks to its compact size of the player and the BOT, is only fractionally larger than the DAC itself.
