i cant comment on the bore3 nor about the mephisto. however on the alexia2 i have heard a lot of amps and the humboldt sounds way better than the momentum 400 with the hd pre. much better!

probably a very nice system. if you buy new and if you have to add the cabling, racks etc you could end up towards the 300k line....ouch.
in that league you might want to consider the nagra hd preamp as well.

I would recommend trying to demo Vitus as well. I have the RI-101 paired with 02’s and it has got to be one of the best combinations I have heard in a long time. I imagine going up in the Vitus line would be even better.

A precursor to Jonathan Valin’s (“JV’s) review is above.

Robert Harley, the Editor of The Absolute Sound (TAS) reckons Jonathan is high-end audio’s finest writer. While I’m sure such a proclamation would rightly invite some pretty robust debate, what I can say is that I really do appreciate JV’s efforts in not just describing in detail how something sounds, but comparing the reviewed item to other similar products he has owned or reviewed, currently or in times past.

Jonathan’s point of reference includes MBL’s $263,000 omnidirectional MBL 101 X-tremes which in his opinion turn water into wine and are the best loudspeakers he’s heard at his home —or anyplace else, for that matter. Having had the privilege of hearing MBL’s on several occasions, I find myself in total agreement – well, sans turning water in wine that is.

So for JV to earlier write that the $120,000 Børresen Acoustics 05 speakers have a transient speed and fineness of detail like nothing else he’s heard from a cone loudspeaker, plus a wraparound sound-staging that is only rivalled by the big MBLs – really is kudos for Lars, Michael and the Borresen / Ansuz team.

Guys i'm still investigating in which pre-power would work best with Borresen 03s.
    Any ideas between : CH L1+X1+M1.1stereo, Audionet Stern-Heisenberg, Spectral DMC 30SV+DMA 400SV ?
My guess is the Audionet rig, please vote.

Have you considered Vitus? It’s an awesome combination. I have the RI-101 integrated paired with the 02’s. Going separates and/or moving up in the line would be even better. The synergy especially with the tweeter is fantastic.

These combinations are overkill with these speakers imo. The CH L1 + A1.5 or the Audionet Humboldt will be more than enough and more reasonable in terms of price level as well.

Which combination you will ultimately prefer demands careful listening, and isn't something that we can decide for you. They're both SOTA alternatives.

Absolutely, i made a shootout between Vitus SIA-030 and Audionet Humboldt.
The Humboldt was the clear winner for my taste.

From my experience Borresen speakers are very hard speakers to drive, harder than their specs. Just something to keep in mind.

Yes the Humboldt has way enough power to drive Borresen 03s.
IMO it's the best integrated on the market today and i have heard CH I1, Gryphon Diablo 300, Dartzeel CTH-8550, T+A PA 3100HV, Aavik U-380, Jeff Rowland Daemon and Vitus SIA-030.

the humboldt is outstanding! utterly thrilling, i cant repeat it enough.
there was just a review in the german magazine "stereo".
he left any other integrated such as t&a 3100hv on half way behind, a complete different league.
only the very best seperates were close to it!

excellent cabling is paramount with the audionets. i found the norosts to perform the best with the humboldt and a friend who owns the stern/heisenberg had the very same impression.

well, its about the same pre inside and the poweramplifier is the same apart from that it is only the half.
it comes down to more power between them. that said, the humboldt is ultra stable.

    no, we havent tried ansuz!
the very best of transparent and audiquest was involved. my friend has tried a lot as he is a dealer, i dont know what brands he tried. i just know ansuz was not involved.
i would like to try them out but they are not available in my country.

Ansuz is definitely worth a listen, great synergy. It should be though since it is the same cable technology used in the speakers.

Totally a personal preference, AQ is great as well especially if you can biwire.

my experience was with wilson speakers, tunetots and alexia2. both inernally wired with transparent.
even though i prefered the audioquest over the transparent.
it was full loom powercords and signal, so the overall thing seemd to be more relevant than the last few centimeters

    Lars,

I listened to your 6 minute lecture at RMAF '19 and enjoyed the 2-way 01s you had in the larger room. Thanks for playing Hope Sandeval.
With absolutely no doubts I will say those were the best sounding box speakers I have ever heard.
Magico is not in the same league in my opinion. I have not heard all the Swiss/German makes yet
but nothing out of the UK or US comes close. Keep up the good work!! Supporter in Phoenix!!!

As soon as the Danes allow us to order. Been told they are keeping them close to home to work out any unexpected concerns.

My dealer has some of the new Aavik series "burning" in, I-280 / D-280 and the 180 streamer, back to the time of the stereo towers :-)

Very cool, how does it sound?

The trio of boxes consists of an Aavik I-280 integrated amplifier, a line input only device rated at 2 x 300 w; the Aavik D-280 DAC (supports PCM & DSD) and the Aavik S-280 streamer with in house streaming application. Re: Borresen Acoustics Loudspeakers

It is the S-180, not S-280 as mentioned above.

Set is still "burning" in and has no problem to drive the 05's.

Borresen 05 speakers reviewed by TAS

In the latest issue of The Absolute Sound “TAS”, Jonathan Valin or “JV” as he is widely known (and not many in the audio industry can get away with using their initials and still have instant recognition) – tells us that the Borresen Acoustics 05 loudspeaker is an “electrostat in a box”.

Of course, owners of Borresen speakers were already aware that the resolving abilities of Borresen’s latest ribbon tweeter were outstanding, far surpassing traditional domes – though JV pushes the praise further suggesting

“It was Borresen 05’s lack of color cast coupled with its phenomenal resolution and near-boxless openness that put me in mind of the original CLS.”

    AND

“To begin at the top, Borresen’s wonderful ribbon tweeter – alongside the equally fabulous MBL HF Radialstrahler, the best tweet in high-end audio, IMO has been audibly improved.”

The CLS referred to by Jonathan is MartinLogans long out of production but much lauded electrostatic speaker. It was claimed to be a full range electrostatic but in practise – it like the subsequent CLX which I auditioned extensively many moons ago was far from it. Resolving abilities of the Martin Logan CLX were terrific but electrostatic bass always seemed deficient to my ears leaving some (many in fact) recordings sounding threadbare.

It should be noted for the record that Jonathan’s reference system includes Martin Logan’s CLX, MBL’s 101 X-treme and Magico M3 speakers (among others) so he is uniquely placed to compare high end loudspeaker performance in the context of his own system – and most importantly – his own listening room.

    Re: Borresen Acoustics Loudspeakers

Børresen Acoustics is introducing a new YouTube video series based on their customers' frequently asked questions.

I understand the video below is the first episode in a series of several FAQ videos.

In this episode Chief Designer Michael Børresen answers FAQ’s on how he optimizes the loudspeakers magnet system, the problems with the use of iron in magnet motors and Borresen’s preference of using silver in an attempt to deliver greater musical authenticity.

While many loudspeaker manufacturers in the world today claim they make their own drivers, few really do. Borresen Acoustics build drivers in house and that make this video all the more interesting.

    Re: Borresen Acoustics Loudspeakers

Borresen Acoustics Chief Designer Michael Børresen continues his FAQ series. In this episode he discusses why Borresen is offering the option of cryogenic treated speaker components.

All metal components of the speaker series undergo cryogenic treatment. The cryogenic processing cycle requires a 3-day-time window. Within the first 24 hours, the metal undergoes a cooling process from room temperature to cryogenic temperatures. During the second 24 hours, the metal parts are held at temperatures around -196°C (-321°F) before the temperature, within the next 24 hours, returns gradually to room temperature. The gradual cooling and heating is critical to avoid any thermal stress. The result Borresen claims is improved conductivity which in turn leads to increased dimensionality of the sound and improved musicality.

Both the 0 and Z-series of Borresen speaker now offer cryo editions. Read what Borresen’s new dealer in Florida has to say about that HERE
