In a recent visit to Audio Maestro, Audio Group Denmark’s (AGD) dealer in Singapore I got to listen to the Borresen X3 loudspeaker paired with the Axxess Forte amplifier.

AGD has been working hard to offer product at more accessible price points and the X3 floor stander speakers retail for US$11k. The Forte 1, which is a single box integrated amplifier with built in DAC, Streamer and headphone amplifier retails for just US$5.5k.

Add an Ansuz X series distributor, power and speaker cables and it’s possible to assemble a whole system for US$20k (retail).

The system I listened to used the Forte 2 with Ansuz A level distribution and cables. Gosh it was impressive for price. The Børresen X3 may be the least expensive floorstanding speaker in the company’s portfolio but it is a smooth, refined and revealing speaker with a surprising amount of bass weight for the small driver size. I must confess that I’m not a big fan cosmetically of the “checker board” looking woven carbon fibre faced cones – but their coherence with the ribbon tweeter was outstanding. Sound staging was deep and wide and I imagine could have been further improved if the dealer had the space to position the speakers further into the room.

I wondered whether the system would sound even better if rather than streaming, a CD transport was used, utilizing the Forte’s internal DAC. Sure enough, comparing a CD track to the exact same track stored on NAS (ripped from the CD) the CD was a clear winner. It didn’t need a flash transport to win either with the dealer using a dated Marantz player.

While researching more online about the Borresen X3 I came across the below review by Greg Weaver of the Audio Analyst. See Borresen X3 Loudspeakers | REVIEW - Part-Time Audiophile. Greg concludes:

If you haven’t gathered by this point what a staggeringly good loudspeaker the Børresen X3 is, let me put aside any further subtleties. This speaker not only offers excellent performance, soaring well above its loss-leader asking price, but it also offers exceptional value! If AGD had placed a twenty-two, or even a twenty-five-thousand-dollar MSRP on the Børresen X3 loudspeakers, I wouldn’t bat an eye at those asking prices. This speaker is THAT good.

Borresen have subsequently released another X-Series loudspeaker, the X6 which increases the driver count to 7, with 2 mid range drivers and 4 bass drivers.

Capital AudioFest 2023: Jay's Audio Lab Top Room For $50,000


For many years now feedback from customers and dealers has been for Audio Group Denmark (AGD) to launch more affordable products.

AGD has clearly listened because recent product launches have included the Axxess Forté 1, an all-in-one–integrated amplifier, DAC, streamer & headphone amp for around US$5k and new X-series floorstanding loudspeakers including the X3 at US$11k and the X2 at US$8.8k. Certainly, such products are still not cheap but relative to the latest Borresen M6 loudspeaker at US$550k they certainly enjoy a much larger target market and AGD dealers and customers alike are smiling.

Next Level Hifi also demonstrated a US$25k system at Capital AudioFest. The system consisted of the Børresen Acoustics X2 Loudspeakers, the Axxess Forte’ 1 (All In One Electronics), A Mainz8 X-TC3 power distributor, A PowerSwitch X-TC3 (Ethernet distribution with noise reduction to clean streaming signals) and a full loom of Ansuz X series cables to connect everything.

Not many companies in the High End Audio industry have the breadth of product range that AGD does and one benefit is system component matching and synergy, a point Jay makes during his reviews below.

World Debut of The New $5500 Borresen X1 Loudspeaker


Following the hugely successful launch of the Borresen X3 loudspeaker (US$ 11k) and subsequently the Borresen X2 floorstander (US$ 8.8k) – here now rounding out the X-series is the stand mount X1 loudspeaker.

At US$5500, the X1 opens the world of Audio Group Denmark for a new audience!

The Borresen brand has come a long way and now has more stereo loudspeaker models than Magico or Wilson!

Audio Group Denmark (AGD), the umbrella company for four audio brands, Ansuz, Aavik, Børresen and Axxess will be exhibiting at the upcoming Florida International Audio Expo in Tampa, FL.

AGD in partnership with Next Level Hi Fi of Chicago has three (3) rooms at the show; CYPRUS, a large ballroom located on the 2nd floor, close to the lobby check in and two rooms on the 6th floor, namely Room 615 and 616.

Jays Audio Lab visits Next Level HiFi of Wayne, IL


This was very interesting viewing and I hope Jay gets permission from other premium high-end audio store owners in the US to visit and record them.

Tyler and Dana Meuller, the business owners of Next Level HiFi have been in business for around 20 years.

Tyler shared his focus strategy, find a small number of brands you really believe in and are absolutely passionate about, stick with them and mutually grow the business by delivering strong customer value backed with first class customer support.

Jay noted this strategy contrasted with some audio dealers in the USA which represented many brands and swopped brand representation frequently. Jay's feeling was some dealers picked up whatever was perceived to be selling out best – leading to a revolving door of brand representations as store owner whims, market demands, or distribution models changed.

Criticisms of the video? I think it would have been best for Jay to comment on the Focal Sopra N°3 vs. Borresen X3 speakers in a separate video, but I guess that was Jay simply being spontaneous.

Just curious what is the mid-bass driver they are using? Is it their own or outsourced? According to one of their videos it's their own tech. But then I see Perlisten Speakers which is located in WI, seems to be using similar technology in the bass drivers. X1 owner now... Would love to buy the Forte to mate with these down the road, currently using Naim gear which does mate very well. Great thing about NLH is they definitely know their stuff, and they know how to setup a room correctly which is key, even at shows which is equally impressive.

Congratulations on the Borresen X1 acquisition. Did you buy the X1 to replace something else? If so, what?

Audio Group Denmark design and build all speaker drivers (cones and ribbon) in-house. Ditto for the crossovers and cabling. Visually the cones on Perlisten Speakers and for that matter new Gryphon speakers too, look similar but the membrane and magnet motor system is different.

AXPONA 2024 | World Debut of the Borresen C1 Standmount Speaker


Audio Group Denmark will be launching a brand-new loudspeaker at AXPONA 2004, the Borresen Acoustics C1.

The C1 is positioned above the recently launched Borresen X1.

Compared to the X1 the C1 has a better loudspeaker magnet system with lower inductance, an upgraded ribbon tweeter from the M series, a larger cabinet with additional carbon fibre reinforcements in the cabinet sides to make the cabinet more rigid and an improved crossover circuit. All of this sums to overall less noise and consequently improved resolution and dynamic range vs. the X1.

The expected MSRP (TBC) is US$16500 including stand.
