    Burn-in cd

Anyone tried out the "Cardas - Ayre Acoustics Irrational, But Efficacious (IBE) Burn-in CD"?

    Re: Burn-in cd

I have! Every so often I unplug the system for a while and play the Full Glide Tone which a full frequency track that’s 5 minutes long 2 or 3 times. It seems to refresh the system. Does it work? I believe so. 😎

    Re: Burn-in cd

That's what people say about it; have you tried other burn-in cds?
I tried the "IsoTek Full System enhancer & rejuvenation disc" and found it quite interesting...complete with odd sound effects. 2 different tracks; one for small bookshelf systems, and one for larger with sub-woofer.
Which of the two disks is better...I'm looking for something to add a bit more clarity and definition..not really a break-in disk.

    Agree 100%.

    However, I don't really consider it a burn-in CD, but a last-minute refresh-before-listening track.

So what is the theory behind a burn in disk refreshing the system? I am curious to know. By the way, I am not trying to discredit your claim as I believe you hear a difference.

When Charlie Hansen of Ayre told me about this disc at a CES show (when I was still the Avantgarde Acoustics distributor), I asked him how & why.

He honestly replied that he didn't really know!!!

Anyway, I still use mine today, but I still have no idea how or why it works.

For true burn-in, I use a disc that George Cardas recommended to me a bit earlier - The Sound of the Surf - no longer available, IIRC. I think I paid $4.99 at a local Las Vegas cd store.

Can I rip the disk and will it still work? I don't have my CDP hooked up as I have all my music ( 9TB) on a HD and the rest on vinyl.

Yes, you can rip the disc, just keep it at 44.1.

With the late Charlie Hansen’s approval, I actually have the 5 minute IBE track & the Sound of the Surf CD on CD 1 of the Through the Sound Barrier project, which is ridiculously late for delivery.

I've started most every Sunday morning for the past nearly twenty years playing track 7, then commence to vibrate some drywall with Bach and Handel organ music. I have no idea what it does or if it works. I feel the same way about flossing my teeth.

Not sure why Audiophilehi 'unplugs the system.' Instructions say to play at moderately low volume, which is what Ayre AD who gave it to me told me to do.

edit: I do not consider this a 'burn-in' disc, but rather a 'tune-up' disc. I was told that best burn in is a complex symphonic piece (maybe Mahler's 8th) with extended dynamic range, on repeat if using a cd player.

psychoacoustics , what else can it be if you can't measure and or explain it ??

there's nothing wrong with that, I believe in the powers of it myself and what I don't believe in are the audiophiles who won't accept it ...........
    Cheers ! …. Dave

Hi AVB...Unplugging my equipment has nothing to do with the burn in disc. It’s just an additional step in refreshing the system.

Interesting, I find it useful with my digital equipment.
Do you think it clear the buffer ?

It’s even benefits the Devialet amp

I discovered it by mistake and I unplug all my digital equipment one a month

    Hi Jim,

I googled the "Through the Sound Barrier project" you mentioned, but the site doesn't have anything there. All the links lead to a blank page.
