Difference's between a Avantgarde Duo Mezzo Omega G2 and G1 (series 1?)
Hi
I was wondering if any one was able to tell me the difference between an Avantgarde Duo Mezzo Omega G2 and the G1 (is it called the series 1?)
Also, does anyone know if the G1 (if its called that) can be upgraded to G2 spec's
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
cheers
Eggie

Difference's between a Avantgarde Duo Mezzo Omega G2 and G1 (series 1?)
What I told him was to save for the XD series. I know AG dealers are very anxious and aggressive in dumping their older G1 and G2 series AG's. I have heard both the earlier models (G1's at a friends in Tampa many times and G2's twice) and they have flaws - which is mainly a disconnect between the bass woofers and the horns. In the earlier models, the bass woofer can not keep up with the horns. The XD series 100% corrects those flaws. Faster drivers, faster amps and more power. Save for the XD series. Period. As one manufacturer of amps said when he heard mine "AG XD series are horns perfected." The timing between the bass woofers and horns on the XD series is absolutely perfect. Total harmony.

Contact user marslo over at Whatsbestforum. He upgraded from G2 to XD. He will give you a first hand experience.
No doubt the XD are better, but also 3x more expensive (if you compare a brand new XD to an used pair of G2).Adam

Re: Difference's between a Avantgarde Duo Mezzo Omega G2 and G1 (series 1?)
Hi Rob181
I asked because I demoed a pair of Mezzo's and didn't know they were G1's and was curious in the difference between them and G2's.
The pair I heard were a little beaten up and the price wasn't that great all things considered. At the right price I would have bought them, but the difference in price between them and the new XD wasn't so great to warrant buying them.
cheers

Re: Difference's between a Avantgarde Duo Mezzo Omega G2 and G1 (series 1?)
yes Sir here I am
But Eggmeister asked about the difference between G1 and G2 Omega.
As my first Avantgardes were Duo Omega G2 I cannot answer this question.
AfAIK Blue 58 from London at WBF still has first generation of Duo's and probably heard G2.

Re: Difference's between a Avantgarde Duo Mezzo Omega G2 and G1 (series 1?)
According to this document, there are the following differences between the G1 and G2 models:
- new bass drivers with neodynium magnets;
- new crossovers with better capacitors;
- optimised internal wiring;
- solid cast aluminium base frame with integrated spike micro–levelling;
- newly shaped frame fixations;
- the die–cast aluminiumcover at the rear of the horn unit;
- the enlarged amplifier module;
- new finish options available.Adam

I have no issue if the thread goes off topic and people would like to discuss the difference between the G2 and the XD, if anything, I actively encourage it.

Re: Difference's between a Avantgarde Duo Mezzo Omega G2 and G1 (series 1?)
I agree with Mike, the new XD series are significantly better.
I was a bit affraid of new D class amps cause during the listening of Duo Mezzo g2 in Avantgardes HQ last year I auditioned the latter with amps in Class AB and liked it very much.
But in reality new amps with DSP control gives the opportunity of adjustments to your room, taste and the other elements of the setup.
The proprietary AG software available online works very well , the memory allows up to 80 different settings.
I liked my Duo Omega G2 very much , but the possibilty of fine tuning was reduced and sometimes it could result in the lack of coherency . It was not my case, friends who visited me liked the speed, dynamics and life like presentation of my Duo Omega G2. To reach the synergy of the setup the selection of amps, sources and cables was critical however .
Now with Duo Mezzo XD the influence of cables and tweaks is less evident, I have different settings of bass satelites for analog and digital, to change them is very easy on the rear panel.
Bass influences very much the reception of midrange and highs and this is a new experience for me, this is not just bass itself, the whole presentation changes .
If money is not the main criteria, I would go for xd series, but Duo Omega , Grosso or Mezzo g2 are very good options for money.
One remarque to Elberoth post: Mezzo is only one specific model within the Duo G2 range which consisted of Duo, Duo Omega , Duo Grosso , Duo Mezzo and Duo Primo. Now it' s reduced to Duo XD, Duo Mezzo XD and Primo XD ( Primos have double bass sections compared to Mezzo).
Duo Mezzo and Primo are the only models with so called short basshorn satelites, the other models have standard subwoofers. As far as I know some folks upgraded their g1 series to g2 specifications but the upgrade from g2 to XD is hardly possible .

I hope it helps,
