    Upgrade a factory sound-system.

Today I had the sound system in my VW V6 Amarok truck upgraded to Focal WRC 165 Utopia speakers, Focal amp FPX 4.800 4/3/2-ch amplifier & Audison Bit Ten Multi function digital processor, with Van Den Hul cable. They created a sound chamber in the doors & also lined them with dynamat so when you do the knock test the doors sound like very solid steel & not the usual echo of "tin". The speakers themselves are absolutely startling in every way in comparison to the generic Chinese ones supplied. Just the magnet on one of the Focal tweeters is more than triple the mass weight of of a generic tweeter supplied. The guys at the shop were really happy with the way it played out & everyone was super stoked at the sound that we achieved with the amp, processor & speakers with the stock head unit. I played Metallica S&M album on the way home & have never enjoyed it so much & this is the first album through the system. I cannot believe how absolutely crap the so called "very good" factory system is that
was replaced. To say I have a new found respect for Focal & Audison would be an understatement & highly recommend everyone to do it.

The Audison processor is an absolute game changer for car audio in my opinion. I'm assuming you have the one that puts all the soun stage in front of you, making it impossble to localize speaker location? They have nice amps as well. If this is what your processor does, it blew my mind the first time I heard one.

The Dynamat is a must. That's worth it on any level. I can't stand road noise. I've found that quality tires makes a difference as well. Not for SQ but to drop noise, LOL

Man, I know you are loving it. Do you have a sub?

Dynamat isn't for road noise but it can have a mild effect. You need more insulation to take care of road noise appropriately.

Isn't a drop in noise an improvement in SQ?

No I never got a sub put in, but probably won't be able to help myself & do so down the road. The guys set the Audison processor up so it did indeed sound like James Hetfield was singing up the front of the car. Yes the Audison gear is absolutely amazing & am so pleased with the result. That dynamat has made a huge difference but the insulated sound chambers are part of the magic also.

Went back for a new tweeter this morning & the second tune after the speakers have had some air time. I asked the tune guy where to from here & he said a sub may help "but hell", that is some pretty good sound from those speakers as is. When I was at the the original first install, one of the techs was was moving the allen key from one screw to the other & the magnet literally pulled the key from his fingers & through the diaphragm....

    Pretty good magnet!

I think a sub would be mandatory.

They make a huge difference Kev.
